초록

본 연구는 거주집단 (community` in-Groups)의 구성원들 삶의 생활공간에서 생활하면서실천(signifying practices)하는 문화간 커뮤니케이션(intercultural communication)이다. 연구대상은 강남-강북권 부유층의 3개 커뮤니티를 선정하였다. 연구내용은 부르디외(P. Bourdieu) ‘구별짓기(distinction)’의 ‘아비투스적 성향(habitus)’과 베블렌(Veblen, 1899)의 ‘베블렌효과(Veblen Effect)유사성과 연계하여, 공동체 구성원들의 관습, 제도, 습관, 정서, 종교, 소비형태, 여가및 취미활동, 정체성, 세계관 등에 대한 일련의 커뮤니케이션의 과정들을 살펴보았다. 조사방법은 설문지에 의한 조사와 참여관찰과 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 연구결과 총38 유목 중 10개 항목은 유의수준 5%범위내에서 세 커뮤니티 간 유의확률이 0.025보다 작아 차이가 있었음에도 불구하고 세 커뮤니티 간에 구별짓기(distinction)의 아비투스적 성향(habitus)과 과시적인 베블렌효과 측면에서는 약간의 차이가 있었다. 이런 거주집단 공동체 구성원들의 문화적 특성이 고맥락문화권(high context)을 지닌한국인의 집단적 독특한 특성으로 사회적커뮤니케이션의 실천을 반영하는 중요한 요인으로 볼 수 있는 부분이다. 거주집단 구성원들의 삶의 공간에서 참여(participated)하고 공유(shared)하는 일련의 과정들은 바로커뮤니케이션으로 이뤄지는 문화전승 과정으로 매스커뮤니케이션의 기능들인 것이다. 따라서 거주집단 구성원들의 생활방식(a way of life)에서 문화 간 커뮤니케이션(intercultural communication)의 문화연구(cultural studies)에 큰 의미가 있다.

영어초록

This research performs cultural studies to observe the communication process of community in-groups, which signifies practices in living space. Three communities of haves in areas of Gangnam(rich-southern Seoul) and Gangbuk (northern Seoul) were selected as research objects. Research contents are a series of communications involving behavioral, cognitive, and material aspects in terms of the practices, systems, habits,emotions, religions, consumption patterns, leisure activities, identity, and worldview.
Research were conducted in conjunction with the similarities of habitus of distinction by P. Bourdieu and Veblen Effect of T. Veblen. Investigation method was the quantitative analysis through questionnaire surveys, and chi-square test was carried out in order to verify the difference of communities. As well, participatory observation and interviews were performed. The findings of research revealed that habitus of distinction and conspicuous Veblen Effect of three communities have a little difference, even though significance probability of three communities is smaller than 0.025 in the range of the significance level 5% in 10 items of total 38 items.
A series of behavioral, cognitive, and material conventions of specific community in-groups indicate essential features to reflect the practice of a unique community of Korean society that implies high-context culture, placing weight on being concerned about saving face, furtive glance, mood, and atmosphere. Communication forms and transmits a series of processes, in which participation and sharing are made in the living space.
Accordingly, study on a way of life about community in-groups is meaningful in a sense that it adds cultural studies of intercultural communication.
