초록

With the opening of the first phase of the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway and the launch of the Korea Railroad Corporation, the existing Gyeongbu Line has moved from passenger-focused transport to freight-focused transport. Subsequently, the operation of high-speed railways began in earnest with the second stage of the Gyeongbu high-speed railway and the opening of the Honam high-speed railway, and the existing Gyeongbu and Honam lines became possible for freight-focused operation due to the reduction and adjustment of passenger car operations. However, even after the opening of the high-speed railway, the volume of rail freight transportation has not increased much, contrary to expectations, and rather, it has recently shown a sharp decline. Accordingly, the changes in the volume of major railway lines due to the opening and operation of high-speed railways were identified and the results were analyzed through factors affecting the operation and railroad traffic. By applying the Two Way Fixed Effects (TWFE) difference in differences method (DID) as a methodology of the study, the effect of the opening of the high-speed railway on the railway traffic volume was analyzed by comparing the freight traffic volume of the routes directly affected by the high-speed railway operation before and after the opening. As a result, it was confirmed that the opening of the high-speed railway affected the freight volume of rail transportation.
