초록

본 연구의 목적은 최근 전 세계적으로 매우 심각한 사회적 이슈로 대두되고 있는기후변화 문제와 관련하여 기후변화 위험이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자하는 데 있다. 기업의 기후변화 대응 수준을 매출액 대비 탄소배출강도 및 탄소배출강도 증가율로 측정하고, 시장유동성 위험으로 측정한 기업가치와의관계를 검증하고자 하였다. 온실가스종합정보센터에서 제공하는 온실가스 에너지 목표관리 명세서에 기업 단위 온실가스 배출량을 보고한 기업과 한국ESG기준원(KCGS)에서 제공하는 ESG등급을 보고한 유가증권상장 기업을 대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 탄소배출강도가 높은 기업, 즉 기후변화 위험이 높은 기업일수록 유동성 위험이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 탄소배출강도 증가율로 측정한 탄소배출량 감축 노력은 유동성 위험에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로나타났다. 영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of climate change risk on corporate value, a critical global social issue in recently. The level of corporate response to climate change is measured using carbon emission intensity relative to revenue and the growth rate of carbon emission intensity. And than analyzed the relationship between measured corporate value, assessed through market liquidity risk. The analysis is conducted on publicly listed companies that have reported their corporate-level Greenhouse Gas(GHG) emissions in the Greenhouse Gas and Energy Target Management Statement provided by the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea(GIR) and have received ESG ratings from the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability(KCGS). The empirical results are as follows. Firms with higher carbon emission intensity, indicating greater Climate Change risk, tend to exhibit lower liquidity risk. However, efforts to reduce carbon emissions, as measured by the growth rate of carbon emission intensity, do not have a significant impact on liquidity risk. Additional analyses using ESG ratings yielded similar results. These findings can be attributed to the limited informational effect of carbon emission data in capital markets, the insufficient explanatory power of liquidity risk as a proxy for corporate value, and constraints related to the study period due to measurement issues with certain variables. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for academia, industry, and government institutions.
