정선아리랑 수용 공연콘텐츠의 양상과 특징 고찰 (A Study on the Aspects and Characteristics of Performance Contents Accepted by Jeongseon Arirang)

초록

이 논문은 민요 정선아리랑을 수용한 공연콘텐츠를 폭넓게 조사하여 그 현황과 상호관련성을 파악한 후, 이들 공연콘텐츠에서 정선아리랑이 어떠한 서사와 결합하면서 가창되고 있는지 그 양상과 특징을 구체적으로 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다.
정선아리랑을 수용한 창작 공연콘텐츠는 다양했다. 이들 중 김도후의 극본이 전체 23편 중 16편인데, 김도후가 각색, 연출한 1편을 더하면 17편이다. 김도후의 극본들 중에는 정선아리랑을 고려 말 칠현 서사와 결합하여 가창하는 콘텐츠들, 세 자매의 기구한 인생 서사와 결합하고 있는 콘텐츠들, 그리고 아우라지 전설을 재구성한 서사 등 독자적 서사와 결합하고 있는 콘텐츠들로 크게 세 유형을 보여주었다. 첫째 칠현 서사와 결합하고 있는 정선아리랑 창극으로 <아! 정선, 정선아리랑>(2000)과 <신들의 소리>(2001)를 대표로 들 수 있다. 전자는 칠현의 안내로 정선이 정선아리랑의 의미를 깨닫게 된다는 것으로, 칠현 서사와 정선의 성장 서사가 결합되면서 정선아리랑이 가창되는 특징을 보인다. 후자는 칠현의 서사를 스토리텔링의 중심 서사로 삼으면서 정선아리랑이 가창되는 경우이다. 전ㆍ후자 모두 칠현 서사의 무비판적 수용에 따른 문제점을 안고 있다. 둘째 유형은 세 자매의 기구한 인생 서사 속에서 정선아리랑이 불리는 것으로, 대표적 극본으로 <아리랑고개 너머>(2009)가 있다. 셋째는 여러 독립된 서사와 결합된 정선아리랑 창극 유형이다. 아우라지전설을 조혼풍속의 폐해와 연결하고 있는 창극으로 <아우라지>(2002), 하늘의 아름다운 소리를 훔친 어둠의 마왕으로부터 하늘의 천사인 다섯 아리아나가 다시 소리를 되찾는 과정을 정선아리랑과 흥미롭게 엮은 창극 <소풍>(2009), 조혼풍속을 현대사 속에서 각시의 성장 서사에 따라 정선아리랑을 부르는 창극 <어머이>(2012)가 있다.
한편, 허규의 <애오라지>(1980)는 정선아리랑을 수용한 첫 희곡 작품으로, 민담의 환상적 스토리에 정선아리랑이 부분적으로 교합되어 인간의 이기적인 욕망이 허황된 꿈에 지나지 않는다는 일깨움을 준다. 이하륜의 <아리랑 정선1>(1980)은 아우라지 전설에 밀착된 서사의 극적 구성에 정선아리랑이 결합된 면모를 보여준다. 이 작품은 이후 정선아리랑의 창극 창출에 상당한 자극과 영향을 주었다. 최병화의 <메나리>(2014)는 선녀와 나무꾼, 견우와 직녀 설화를 혼성한 스토리를 바탕으로 선녀인 월녀와 농사꾼 월우 사이의 애틋한 사랑의 서사에 정선아리랑 등 동부메나리로 부르는 여러 소리를 결합한 창극이다. 윤정환의 <아리아라리>(2018)는 가족사 스토리를 새롭게 구성한 서사, 자연스러운 극적 구성을 보여준다. 특히 뗏목 운반에서 경복궁중수사업으로 연결되는 서사에 따라 정선아리랑을 비롯한 여러 민요가 다채롭게 가창됨으로써 경쾌하면서도 진지한 창극의 양면성을 보여준다.

영어초록

This Study investigates a wide range of performance contents accepted into folk song Jeongseon Arirang, and then identifies the current status and interrelationships of the contents. In these performance contents, I would like to clarify the aspects and characteristics of Jeongseon Arirang being sung in combination in certain types of narrative.
There are diverse creative performance contents accepted into Jeongseon Arirang. Among them, Kim Do-hoo's play scripts account for 16 of 23 contents; particularly, contents combining Jeongseon Arirang with narratives about the seven loyalists for Goryeo, contents combining the three sisters' epic life narratives, and narratives reconstructing the legend of Auraji combined with independent narratives, reveal three major aspects of the contents. First, this play a Jeongseon Arirang musical combined with the narrative about the seven loyalists; Ah! Jeongseon, Jeongseon Arirang(2000) and Sound of the Gods(2001) are such examples. In the former, Jeongseon realizes the meaning of Jeongseon Arirang through the guidance of seven loyalists, and shows the characteristics of Jeongseon Arirang being sung according to the initiation story of Jeongseon. In the latter, Jeongseon Arirang is sung while taking the narrative of seven loyalists as the central narrative of storytelling.
Second, Over the Arirang Hill(2009) is a representative play in which Jeongseon Arirang is sung in the narrative of the life of three sisters. Particularly, Auraji(2002) drew attention as a Korean folksong musical connecting the legend of Auraji with the damage caused by early marriage. Sopung(the Picnic)(2009-2010) is based on a fantasy folktale in which Ariana, the five angels of the sky, recovers from the demon king who stole Jeongseon Arirang, the beautiful sound of the sky. The problem of perception that Jeongseon Arirang is confined to the frame of the ideal sound from the sky and the sound of the gods is still working. Mother(2014) shows the point where the existing idealized perception of Jeongseon Arirang changes, as evidence by the life story of a girl, from girl to gaksi(a bride) to daughter-in-law to mother. The intention to show Jeongseon Arirang in the historical context reveals the problem of dividing microscopic personal history into the grand discourse of history.
Moreover, Heo Gyu's Aeorage(1980) is the first drama to accept Jeongseon Arirang, especially in intersection with fantasy folk tales, reminding us that human desires are selfish and vain. Lee Ha -Ryun's Arirang Jeongseon1(1980) combines Jeongseon Arirang in the dramatic composition of the narrative that is close to the auraji legend. This work significantly influenced the creation of Jeongseon Arirang's Korean musical. For instance, a Jeongseon Arirang musical Menari(2014) by Choi Byung-hwa, is a changgeuk script in which various original songs are sung in various ways, including Jeongseon Arirang. It is necessary to look back to see if the folk songs and creative songs sung as Menari's songs are naturally sung according to the situation in the play. By taking motifs from the tales of the fairy and the woodcutter and the cowherd and the weaver girl, it allows the audience to immerse themselves in the narrative in a friendly way. However, as the love story of Wol-woo and Wol-nyeo is familiar, there are concerns that it cannot be newly experienced by an audience. Yoon Jung-hwan's Ariarari(2018) presents a new and interesting narrative composition of a story on family history, and a natural dramatic composition. In particular, various folksongs, including Jeongseon Arirang, are sung in a variety of ways according to the narrative, which leads from the transport of the raft to the Gyeongbokgung restoration project, showing a relatively successful aspect as a Korean musical.
