학교 적응의 어려움이 있는 초등학생 자녀와 어머니의 서로 떨어지는 경험에 대한 해석학적 현상학 (Hermeneutic Phenomenology on Experiences of Separation between Mothers and Elementary School Children who are Maladjusted to School)

초록

본 연구는 어머니로부터 떨어지지 못하여 학교 적응에 어려움이 있는 초등학교 저학년 아동과 해당 아동의 어머니가 서로 떨어지는 체험의 본질적 의미구조를 이해하기 위하여 수행되었다. 연구 참여자는 어머니로부터 떨어지지 못하여 학교 적응에 어려움이 있다고 느끼는 초등학교 저학년 학생 6명과 해당 아동의 어머니 6명, 총 12명으로, 아동 참여자는 12회기, 어머니 참여자는 4회기의 모래놀이에 참여하였다. 자료수집은 모래놀이와 면담을 사용하였고 자료의 분석과 해석은 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학 연구 방법을 적용하였다. 의미있는 진술, 의미있는 상징, 코드 및 주제는 면담 축어록과 모래상자 이미지의 상징을 해석하여 도출하였다. 본질적 의미구조는 주제가 시간적 순서에 따라 배열되었는지 확인하고, 상호작용의 연관성이 있는 주제끼리 짝을 지은 후, 짝지어진 주제를 통합하는 키워드로 각 단계를 명명하고 일러스트 이미지를 삽입하여 도출하였다. 글쓰기 단계에서는 모래상자 이미지를 삽입하여 체험을 기술하였고, 문자와 일러스트 이미지로 본질적 의미구조를 제시하였다. 연구 결과, 아동과 어머니의 서로 떨어지는 체험의 본질적 의미구조는 공생–균열–상호다툼–수용–분리 단계의 순차적 진행으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 연구가 충분치 않은 초등학교 저학년 시기의 체험에 주목한 점, 아동과 어머니의 상호작용 측면에서 본질적 의미구조를 도출한 점, 무의식 차원의 지각을 이해하기 위해 모래놀이를 활용한 점에서 의의가 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the essential semantic structure of separation-individuation experiences between mothers and their young elementary school children who had difficulty adapting to their schools. 6 pairs of mothers and their children, totaling 12 participants were involved in this study, and the children felt difficulty adapting to their schools due to their inability to separate from their mothers. The children participated in 12 sandplay interview sessions and their mothers participated in 4 sandplay interview sessions. Data were collected through sandplays and concomitant interviews. Collected data were analyzed and interpreted using van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology method. Participants’ remarks in the transcripts and the symbols interpreted from their sandtray pictures were refined into meaningful statements and meaningful symbols, respectively. Refined meaningful statements and meaningful symbols were integrated and transformed into codes and these codes were grouped into themes. The essential semantic structure was derived through a systematic process of verifying that the themes were arranged in chronological order, grouping together related themes in terms of mother-child interaction, naming each stage with integrating keywords for the grouped themes, and incorporating illustrations. In writing stage, participants' experiences were described through text and sandtray images, and the essential semantic structure was also presented using text and illustration images. As the result of this study, the essential semantic structure of separation-individuation between mothers and their children can be delineated as a sequential progression of stages: symbiosis, rift, reciprocal squabbles, acceptance, and separation. The significance of this study is as follows: it provides empirical information on the separation-individuation of mothers and their young elementary school children, an area that has been underexplored so far; it derived an essential semantic structure from the aspect of interaction between the two subjects, children and their mothers; and, it used the method of sandplay in order to understand the unconscious perception of an individual.
