“아프리카 르네상스”와 아프리카인들의 공동 역사인식 (African Renaissance and African Co-realization of History)

초록

본 논문은 1920년대의 제 1차 아프리카 르네상스, 1960년대의 제 2차 아프리카 르네상스, 그리고 1994년 남아프리카공화국의 넬슨 만델라 흑백통합정부의 등장 이후에 만들어진 제 3차 아프리카 르네상스를 통하여 드러난 아프리카인들의 공동 역사인식이 한반도의 남한과 북조선뿐만 아니라 중국과 일본 그리고 대만 등등을 모두 포용하는 동아시아의 공동 역사인식의 토대를 제공하고 있다는 탈근대적 역사인식의 내용을 살펴보는 글이다. 16세기 사구 유럽 르네상스 이후 아메리카와 아프리카 그리고 아시아로 확산된 서구 유럽의 근대적 역사인식은 이 세계를 서구/비서구의 이분법을 통하여 지배와 피지배의 이분법적 세계관을 확산시킨 역사인식이다. 이러한 역사인식은 기독교(문자)/비기독교(비문자), 문명/야만 그리고 선진국(제 1세계)/후진국(제2, 혹은 제 3 세계)의 이분법을 통하여 지배와 피지배의 이분법적 세계관을 확산시킬 뿐만 아니라 지구촌 세계의 각 지역들 내부에서 인종(종족)과 종교 그리고 이데올로기의 대립과 갈등을 통하여 하나의 지구나 하나의 세계를 인식하지 못하도록 만든 서구, 백인, 남성 중심의 근대적 역사인식의 근본적인 틀이다.
이러한 제국주의적(혹은 식민주의적) 근대적 역사인식의 근간에는 데카르트의 정신/몸의 이분법적 인식론에 토대를 둔 “동일하지만 불평등한” 개인과 종족들이라는 서구, 백인, 남성 중심주의적인 인류의 이해와 왕조나 국가 혹은 민족 중심의 연대기적 역사서술이 자리를 잡고 있다. 그러나 1492년의 스페인인 콜럼부스의 아메리카 대륙 진출과 마찬가지로 1488년 포르투갈인 바르톨로뮤 디아스의 남아프리카 희망봉 지역의 진출 이후로 약 500년 동안 지속되었던 노예제도를 포함한 다양한 형식으로 백인(지배)/흑인(피지배)의 틀을 깨고 백인과 흑인뿐만 아니라 다양한 색깔의 모든 종족들을 포함하는 탈근대적 역사인식은 “독특하지만 평등한” 개인과 종족들이라는 인간 이해와 각각의 역사적 사건과 주제들을 중심으로 다양한 상호관계들을 서술하는 사건적 역사서술을 특징으로 하고 있다. 이런 측면에서 본 논문은 “독특하지만 평등한” 개인들과 종족들이라는 인간 이해와 사건적 역사서술이 서구, 백인, 남성 중심의 근대적 역사서술에서 벗어날 수 있는 새로운 탈근대적 역사인식일 뿐만 아니라 그러한 탈근대적 역사인식이 남아프리카 지역뿐만 아니라 한반도와 동아시아 지역에서 절실히 필요로 하는 역사인식이라는 것을 증명하고자 한다.

영어초록

A History of South Africa, published in 2014, is consisted of 29 stories of South African historical events and themes in which is presenting eccentricities and equalities of the various South African persons and races included whites and blacks. These eventual and thematical narratives of history, according to the distinctive but equal individuals (and races), is the main contents and the important results of African Renaissance after the Mandela’s co-government for the whites and blacks. This is a model for the co-realization of history of the other African regions, the Korean peninsula including south and north Koreas and the eastern and northern Asia.
With a new historical narratives of South African historical researchers, 2003 Novel Laureate John M. Coetzee from South Africa is presenting a historical episteme on the historical philosophy of the past, the present and the future of the global and the local humankind in Elizabeth Costello. In the Chapter 2, “The Novel inf Africa” of Elizabeth Costello, he says that the modern western european have “something miraculous about the past that the future lacks. What is miraculous about the past is that we(the modern western european) have succeeded in making thousands and millions of individual fictions, fictions created by individual human beings, lock well enough into one another to give us what looks like a common past, a shared sotry.” But the point is that “the future is different. We do not posses a shared story of the future. The creation of the past seems to exhaust our collective creative energies. Compared with our fiction of the past, our fiction of the future is a sketchy, bloodless affair, as visions of heaven tend to be.”(Coetzee 38) The epistemology of “something miraculous about the past that the future lacks” is a historical model for the modern west, white and male centered fiction. After the western European Renaissance the western european historical epistemology has been to get the intellectual power in America, Africa and Asia, and now reproduced the modern historical knowledge in the worldwide humanities and historical studies. In this limit of the modern western european knowledge, the trans-modern epistemology on the human historicity of African Renaissance and co-realization of African history give us the new something miraculous about the future of the global and the local humankind.
