조선시대 성균관 유생들의 儒戱 (A study on a performance of confucian scholar in Sungkyunkwan(成均館) in the Joseon Dynasty)

초록

본고는 성균관 유생들의 자치 활동 중 해마다 여름과 겨울에 정기적으로 설행되었던 儒戱 즉 闕戱 또는 成均館戱에 주목하고자 한다. 궐희는 성균관 유생들이 여는 정기 축제로 성현(1439~1504) 의 『용재총화』 등에 등장하고 있다. 현재 성균관의 제도, 생활, 풍속이 기록되어 있는 『태학지』와 「반중잡영」이 번역되어 여러 연구가 진행되었지만 유독 성균관 유생들의 놀이 문화에 대한 연구는 제출되지 못한 상태이다. 그리고 과거급제 풍속인 유가, 문희연 등에 대한 연구는 있지만 성균관 유생들이 성균관 재학 중에 벌이는 儒戱인 궐희에 대해서 독립적 연구는 시도된 적이 없다.
본고에서는 전문적 광대들이 유가를 대상으로 삼아 풍자하고 희롱하는 우희로만 유희의 의미를 설정하지 않고, 유가 자신인 유생들이 주체가 되어 연행하는 놀이 문화도 유희로 바라보아야 한다는 입장을 취한다. 이렇게 유희의 외연을 넓힐 때 유희의 본모습이 드러날 것이기 때문이다.
본고에서는 먼저 유희에서 펼치는 놀이 중 거시 통치 행위에 해당하는 모의천도희와 모의조각희를 다루었다. 이어서 미시 통치 행위에 해당하는 모의재판희와 모의과거희를 통해 궐희를 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 관료 후보자로서 통치를 위한 예행연습, 후속 세대로서 기성 유교 문화에 대한 비판을 가한다는 측면에서 유희의 의의에 대해 고찰했다.

영어초록

This paper focuses on the festival culture that was regularly held each year in winter and summer, among the self-governing activities of the Seongkyunkwan scholar, namely, palace play(闕戱) or Sungkyunkwanhee (成均館戱). palace play(闕戱) is a regular festival held by the scholar of Sungkyunkwan. Currently, “Taehak-ji(太學志)” and “banJungjabyeong(泮中雜詠)”, which record the system, life, and customs of Sungkyunkwan, have been translated and various studies have been conducted. In addition, there have been studies on the customs of the state examination(科擧), such as Yuga(遊街) and MoonHeeyeon(聞喜宴), but no independent research has been attempted on the area, which is the play that the scholar of Sungkyunkwan have while attending Sungkyunkwan.
Also, as for play, until now, academia has used the meaning limitedly as a widely practiced woohee(優戱) that was widely practiced during the Joseon Dynasty, who harassed Confucianism and its scriptures, and satirizes Confucian scholars. This is the background of the Joseon Dynasty's Yi Yi (李珥)'s Editorial, there is a reference to the play in the article. According to this record, at MoonHeeyeon(聞喜宴), a congratulatory feast held at the applicant of state examination(科擧及第者)'s house, there was a play in which Changwoo(倡優) used citron as a mockery. It is said that he wore worn out clothes and torn shades and produced all sorts of mischief.
In this paper, we take the position that the meaning of play should not be set only as satirical and ridiculous play by professional clowns, but also as a play culture that Confucian scholars themselves take in as the play culture should be viewed as a play. This is because the true nature of Yoohee(儒戱) will be revealed when expanding the concept of Yoohee(儒戱).
First of all, In this paper aims to deal with the play of moving the capital, which is equivalent to macro-governance, and the excercise of ruling the government. We will then look at the trial and state examination that correspond to the actions of the micro-governance. Finally, let's look at the meaning of palace play(闕戱) as follows. As a bureaucrat candidate, he rehearsed for rule and criticized the existing political culture as a successor to his studies
