만해 한용운의 온라인 연보 : 그 개념적 요인들과 구현 방식들 (Han Yong-un's Online Chronology: Its Conceptual Factors and Implementation Methods)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 만해 한용운의 온라인 연보를 기획할 때 고려할 지점들이 무엇인지를 탐색하는 데에 있다. 연보는 ‘개인 삶에서 역사적으로 중요한 사실의 기록’으로, 삶의 방향 제공, 학술 연구 자료, 특정 이미지의 사회적 유통 경로 등에서 중요하다. 그럼에도, 연보 연구는 평전(評傳)을 위한 도구론적이나 개인 활동의 발굴 및 기록 차원에 머물러 미진하다. 이 연구가 종교인들의 온라인 연보 연구에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
그렇지만 우리가 고려할 부분은 연보가 온라인 서비스의 대상이 되고 있다는 상황이다. 이 상황은 연구자들이 온라인에서 어떻게 연보를 구성하고 구현할 것인지에 관심을 기울일 필요가 있다는 점을 시사한다. 이러한 관심은 연보의 개념적 요인들을 고려하는 과정을 수반한다.
이 연구를 위해, 제2장(연보의 개념적 요인들)에서는 개인과의 연관 여부, 사실 여부, 내용을 선별한 기준의 합리성 여부 등 연보에서 개념적으로 고려할 요인들을 검토하였다. 이 요인들은 어떤 연보일지라도 ‘개인과 명확히 연관된 사실들을 최대한 찾고, 합리적 기준을 적용해 중요 내용을 선별해야 한다는 원칙’을 토대로 삼아야 한다는 것을 의미한다.
제3장(연보 사례와 구현 방식들)에서는 온라인 연보 사례를 종교와 무관한 사례, 종교인 사례, 해외 사례로 구분해 구현 방식을 검토하였다. 그리고 각 사례에서 내용 범위의 제공 방식, 스토리 배치(story layout), 공간적 이해를 위한 지도, 번역 서비스, 동료의 연보 서비스, 중요 정보의 별도 서비스, 종교사적 맥락 서비스, 동일 시기의 주요 사건 제공 서비스, 핵심어와 설명문 서비스, 연보의 다양한 형태 등을 확인하였다.
제4장(만해 연보의 구성과 구현)에서는 만해의 연보 기록을 위한 개념적 요인들과 온라인 연보에서 고려할 방식들을 제안하였다. 전자는 개인의 연관성, 사실 여부, 합리적 선별 기준, 활용성 등을 포함한다. 후자는 내용 범위의 분절 여부, 공간적 이해, 개방성, 스토리 배치 등을 포함한다. 물론 이 방식들은 연보 설계 방향에 따라 선별적 채택이 가능하다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the points to be considered in the process of planning the online chronology of Manhae Han Young-un (hereafter Manhae). A chronology is a 'record of historically important facts in an individual's life' and is important in that it provides someone with a direction of life, academic research data, and serves as a social channel for distributing personal images. Nevertheless, researches on chronology so far have been insignificant, and have been carried out at the instrumental level to produce someone's critical biography or at the level of recording individual activities.
However, what we need to consider is the situation in which chronology has been the subject of online services. This situation suggests that researchers need to pay attention to how to construct and implement an online chronology. This concern entails considering the conceptual factors of chronology.
For the purpose of this study, in Chapter 2 (Conceptual Factors of Chronology), I reviewed general factors to be considered conceptually in chronology, such as whether it is related to an individual, whether it is true, and whether the criteria for selecting the contents are reasonable. These factors mean that any chronology should be based on the 'principle of finding the facts clearly related to the individual as much as possible and selecting important contents with reasonable criteria'.
Next, in Chapter 3 (chronology cases and implementation methods), I reviewed the characteristic service methods of online chronology cases. And these cases showed several characteristics: data service unit, story layout, map for spatial understanding, translation, peer’s chronology, understanding of important information, providing religious history context or major events of the same period, separating key words and descriptions, various types of chronology, etc.
Finally, in Chapter 4 (Construction and Implementation of Manhae's chronology), I suggested the conceptual factors for Manhae's chronology and methods to be considered in its online service. The former includes personal relevance, factuality, selection criteria, and utility. The latter includes segmentation of contents’ scope, spatial understanding, openness for modifications, and story layout. These service methods can be selectively adopted according to the direction of designing a chronology. It is hoped that this study will be helpful in studying the online chronology of religious people, including the case of Manhae.
