초록

본 연구는 <錦衫의 피>와 <待春賦>에 대한 선행연구의 성과를 비판적으로 재고하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 기존 연구에서 간과된 관련 정보, 즉 두 작품의 창작 당시 박종화의 역사소설관 및 창작 배경에 더하여 당대 신문연재 역사소설계의 지형 및 지향에 관한 이해가 그 전제이다. 이를 통해 기간의 과평가 내지는 오독을 일정 부분 바로잡을 실증적 근거를 확보하고자 했다. 1930년대 역사소설 전반의 성과를 가늠할 하나의 시금석으로서 <錦衫의 피>와 <待春賦>의 문학사적 좌표를 확인하고자 한 것이다.
<錦衫의 피>와 <待春賦>는 1930년 후반 신문연재 역사소설 번성기의 흐름을 선도했다. 당시 식민시기 신문저널리즘은 역사 지식의 습득과 읽는 재미를 한 번에 얻을 대중독물로 역사소설의 연재를 광고했다. 이 두 가지 미덕은 식민시기 내내 역사소설만의 특별한 장점으로 강조된다. <待春賦>가 전자의 측면을 부각한 작품이라면, <錦衫의 피>는 후자의 특성이 두드러진 작품에 해당한다. <錦衫의 피>가 <待春賦>보다 상대적으로 독자 호응도가 높았던바, 당대 역사소설의 소비자로서 대중의 독서 기대 지평을 시사하는 대목이다. 이러한 사실에 근거하건대 <錦衫의 피>는 일정 부분 소설 미학적 완성도와 대중성을 겸비한 텍스트로, 그 후속작 <待春賦>는 봉건적 충의사상과 근대 민족주의 이념이 중첩된 역사 지식 전달 중심의 텍스트로 변별하여 판정함이 타당하다.
<錦衫의 피>와 <待春賦>는 잇달아 같은 지면에 연재된 한 작가의 작품이다. 성격이 판이한 이들 작품은 식민시기 역사소설의 두 주류를 대변한다. 이는 곧 두 텍스트가 식민시기 역사소설계 전반의 지형 관측에 유용한 시금석임을 뜻한다. 박종화 작 <錦衫의 피>와 <待春賦>를 민족 서사로 선 규정하는 시각에서 비롯된 그간의 오독과 그로부터 유발된 과평가에 대한 재고의 필요성이 여기 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to critically reconsider the achievements of previous studies on “Geumsam’s Blood” and “Daechunbu”. The premise is an understanding of the topography and orientation of the historical novel world in the newspaper's history at the time of creation, in addition to related information overlooked in previous studies, namely Park Jong-hwa’s view of historical novels and his creative background at the time of the creation of the two works. Through this, it was intended to secure an empirical basis to partially correct over-evaluation or misreading of the period. It was intended to confirm the literary and historical coordinates of “Geumsam’s Blood” and “Daechunbu” as a touchstone to gauge the overall achievements of historical novels in the 1930s.
“Geumsam’s Blood” and “Daechunbu” led the trend of prosperity of historical novels in newspaper series in the late 1930s. At that time, newspaper journalism during the colonial period advertised the serialization of historical novels as popular reading material that would provide the fun of acquiring and reading historical knowledge at once. These two virtues are emphasized as the special merits of historical novels throughout the colonial period. “Daechunbu” emphasizes the former aspect and “Geumsam’s Blood” corresponds to a work in which the latter characteristic stands out. Since “Geumsam’s Blood” was relatively more responsive to readers than “Daechunbu”, it suggests the public’s expected reading horizon as a consumer of historical novels of the time. Based on this fact, it is reasonable to judge “Geumsam’s Blood” as a text that combines some of the aesthetic completeness and popularity of novels, and the subsequent work “Daechunbu” as a text centered on the delivery of historical knowledge that overlaps feudal loyalist ideology and modern nationalist ideology.
“Geumsam’s Blood” and “Daechunbu” are the works of a writer serialized on the same page one after another. These works with different personalities represent the two mainstream of colonial historical novels. This means that the two texts are useful touchstones for observing the landscape of the entire colonial historical fiction world. Here is the need to reconsider the misreading and overvaluation caused by Park Jong-hwa’s “Geumsam’s Blood” and “Daechunbu” as national narratives.
