농지개혁과 마을공동체의 변형: 경기 동남부의 두 지역을 중심으로 (Land Reforms and The Transformation of Rural Community Comparative Studies on two districts in Kyunggi-Do)

초록

This study comparatively examines transformations of labor organization(Du-re) and ritual(funeral) organization between Sanum-ri and Sokdal-dong after Land Reforms. These villages have some 'hamlets' and were conditioned on very different kinship relation and productive relation. In both villages, changes were witnessed but Each moments of changes varied greatly.
Land Reforms which included both Korean government's and American military government's had, by the compulsory distribution of landlord's farms, great effects on the structure of Korean rural society. In Sanum-ri, the change in productive relation had affected directly on status relation, which had dissolved. In contrast, the effect of Land Reforms was very restrictive in Sokdal-dong, in that the construction principle of old productive organization and ritual organization remained unchallenged until 1980.
The reason of different results as such can be attributed to difference in productive relation, kinship relation, status relation between two villages. Land Reform resulted in dissolution of land/tenancy relation in Sanum-ri where kinship organizations were near non-existence. In contrast, Sokdal-dong where strong kinship organizations prevailed, survived the Reform due to the restrictive distribution clauses on mountain and farmland for ancestral tombs. Not only private farmland, land for housing remained mostly undistributed after the Land Reforms, but also farmland for ancestral tombs were secured as lineage property by kinship organizations, and abided by the Reforms, therefore maintaining the status relation unchallenged. Sokdal-dong's different economic and organizational conditions was the driving force that kept productive organization and ritual organization based on the status relation(Ban-Sang relation).
In addition, this study insist that the change in korean rural society can be explained not by 'Yang-ban-ization' or 'De-Sang-min-ization', but by 'Confucian-ization' or 'cultural humanization'. Ban-Sang relation between 'Yang-ban' culture and 'Sang-min' culture, on the assumption of the interaction between Yang-ban and 'Sang-min', had disappeared or drastically weakened after Land Reforms. Hereafter Ban-Sang relation have not proceeded. Instead everyone desired to possess Confucian culture. I want to call this social phenomenon 'Confucian humanization' or 'Cultural humanization'.
