UCC 동영상에 나타난 장애인 인식분석 (Analysis on the Understanding of the Disabled Appeared in UCC Videos)

초록

장애인은 교육, 고용, 이동권, 참정권 등 생활전반에서 차별상황에 처해 있으며 이러한 장애인의 전 영역에 걸친 차별의 해소를 위해서는 장애인에 대한 인식개선이 선결과제이다. 장애인 인식 개선을 위해서는 무엇보다 대중 매체들의 역할이 지대하지만 기존의 매체들은 장애인을 돕는 비장애인의 미담이나 장애를 극복한 영웅적 장애인의 삶을 부각시켜 오히려 장애에 대한 부정적 인식을 조장하고 있다. 즉 장애를 ‘사회의 실패’인 사회구조적인 문제로 보지 않고 장애인 개인의 비극 내지는 문제로 인식시켜 장애인이 가진 손상(impairment)을 ‘다름’이 아니라 극복의 대상으로 부각시키기 때문이다.
이에 반해 인터넷의 트랜드로 자리매김하고 있는 UCC 동영상의 경우 장애인 당사자가 직접 제작할 수 있다는 점에서 다른 매체와의 차별성을 보이며 인식개선을 위한 매체로서의 가능성이 크다 하겠다. 이러한 견지에서 본 연구를 통해 UCC 동영상에 나타난 장애인에 대한 인식을 분석하고자 장애이론과 프레임 구성방식에 따라 4개의 유형으로 분석틀을 구성하였다. 장애인 인식개선 관련 39개의 동영상을 분석한 결과, 의료-한계모델에는 8편, 의료-다양성모델 8편, 사회-한계모델 5편, 그리고 사회-다양성 모델에는 18편 속하는 것으로 분류 되었다.
이를 통해 동영상의 내용이 속한 유형은 다른 미디어 매체와는 달리 의료-한계모델이 가장 적으며, 사회-다양성 모델이 주류를 이룸을 알 수 있다. 이는 장애인을 병리적 관점에서 무능력하다거나 개인적 한계를 가진 것으로 보지 않고 장애를 개성이나 인간이 지닐 수 있는 다양한 조건 중의 하나로 인식하는 내용이 다수를 차지한다는 것이다.
이같이 장애인에 의해 장애인의 관점에서 제작될 수 있는 UCC 동영상은 다른 미디어 매체와는 접근성과 내용에 있어 차별성이 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 동영상 제작이 활성화 될 때 장애인 인식개선 뿐 만 아니라 장애인의 문화적 생활에 다양성을 더할 수 있다는 점에서 동영상 제작 기술과 제작지원 방법을 다각적으로 강구해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

The disabled persons are discriminated in every part of life including education, employment, movement right and suffrage, etc. and in order to remove the discrimination against them all around the boundaries, the improvement of understanding about the disabled is the first consideration. The role of mass media is very important in improving the understanding of the disabled, but the existing media are rather promoting the negative understanding of the disabled highlighting the moving stories of the non-disabled who help the disabled and the life of heroic disabled persons who have overcome their obstacles. In other words, they see disabilities as the disabled persons' personal tragedy or problem not "the social failure", the problem in social structure, and stress the impairment of the disabled as the object of overcoming not the part of difference.


On the contrary, UCC videos, which are being established as a trend of internet, are different from mass media in the respect that the disabled themselves can make videos and thus have a great potential to raise the understanding. In this point of view, we have formed four types of analytic frames according to disability theory and the way of frame constitution to analyze the understanding of the disabled appeared in UCC videos through this study. Aa a result of analysis, the thirty nine videos are classified into eight medical limitations models, eight medical variety models, five social limitations models, and eighteen social variety models.
Through this analysis by the type, we can see that in UCC videos unlike other media, medical limitations models are fewest and social variety models are most and take the lead. This shows that many of UCC videos have a content that the disabled persons are not the ones who are disabled or have a personal limitations in the pathologic respect and disability is one of the personalities and conditions that human beings can have.


We have clarified that UCC videos which can be made by the disabled in their own respect have a difference in the accessibility and contents with other media. When considering that the active manufacturing of these videos can not only improve the understanding of the disabled but also increase variety to their cultural life, we think that multilateral studies on the way of technology and support of video manufacturing should be made.
