A Study on Literary Intellectual's Spatial Recognition in Anuisamdong (安義三洞) during Early 16th Century to Early 20th Century

The purpose of this study is to investigate the spatial perception of the characters who left the documents related to Anuisamdong.
Based on the collection of Anuisamdong related documents and the cooperative relationship of the authors, the results of analyzing the objects and contents of the documents are as follows.
First, the documentation related to Anuisamdong is based on the people who meet with the local residents living in Anuisamdong area. In the 16th century, starting from Jeong, Yeo-chang in the 15th century, scholars visited Anuisamdong irrespective of the academic line. However, the documentation of the Toegye school was not found due to the confrontation between Nammyoung School and the Toegye school in the 17th century. In the 18th century, as the schools was integrated and developed into Yeongnam School, the proportion of each school was similar. After the 19th century, more patriots were involved in anti-Japanese campaign than in school affects.
Second, Anuisamdong related documents were divided into subject and contents. As a result, the most frequently used places in the documentation were Wonhak-Dong, Hwarim-Dong, and Simjin-Dong. A total of 21 subjects were found in each of the documentation. Among them, the main places were Suseungdae Rock, Morijae Hall, Nongwoljeong Pavilion, Saseondae Rock, Cheoksuam Rock, and so on. Wonhak-Dong was used as a major point of Anuisamdong since the 16th century centering on Suseungdae Rock, and Hwarim-Dong gradually became a popular spot since the 18th century. On the other hand, Simjin-Dong showed a relatively small proportion.
Third, spatial perception on Anuisamdong is divided into landscape, emotional, and symbolic perception. Anuisamdong's landscape recognition is characterized mainly by scenes from the water landscape and the topography landscape, and it seems that Anuisamdong was recognized as a scenic site in the center of the valley scenery at that time. These landscapes were characterized by the perception of 16th and 17th century scenic sightseeing as a kind of training culture, leading to the emotion of recalling the prehistoric people through prevalence of the 18th century‘s sightseeing culture and the 19th century’s Japanese colonial period. In addition, the symbolic expression, which was mainly appeared in the Anuisamdong documentation, confirmed by the place feature as a Taoist hermit‘s world.
