초록

하오징팡은 휴고상을 수상한 대표작 〈접는 도시〉를 통해 중국 현실 문제에 대한 비판적인 시각을 드러내는 중국 sf 리얼리즘의 대표적인 작가 가운데 한 사람으로 평가된다. 본고는 하오징팡이 현실/미래사회 상상 속에서 일관되게 관심을 가지고 있는 주제가 인간이며, 그것이 감정이라는 소재를 통해 인간의 특징, 인간다움, 인류애 등의 다양한 범주에 걸쳐 재현되는 것에 주목하고자 한다. 하오징팡은 〈사랑의 문제〉와 〈긍정벽돌〉등을 통해 기술과 과학에 기반한 미래사회가 인간의 감정을 인식하고 다루게 될 방식을 상상한다. 나아가 머지않아 마주할 인간 존재의 위기 속에서 문학적 상상력과 인문학적 사유에 기반하여 감정의 본질과 의미를 재조명하고 인간의 가능성을 탐색한다.

영어초록

Hao Jingfang is regarded as a representative writer of Chinese SF realism, known for her critical perspective on contemporary Chinese social issues, as exemplified in her Hugo Award-winning work Folding Beijing. This study focuses on Hao Jingfang’s consistent thematic interest in humanity within her portrayals of both present and future societies, particularly in how she explores human nature, human dignity, and universal compassion through the lens of emotion. In The Problem of Love and Positive Bricks, Hao envisions a future society where technology and science play a central role in recognizing and managing human emotions. Furthermore, in the face of an impending existential crisis for humanity, she reexamines the essence and significance of emotions through literary imagination and humanistic inquiry, seeking to explore the potential of human existence.
In The Problem of Love, the AI entity is introduced as an entity capable of reading human emotions and deriving rational solutions based on data. As a housekeeper, AI not only replaces human functions but also assumes the role of a family member, seemingly encroaching upon and dismantling traditionally human domains as a posthuman figure. However, Hao underscores emotion as a defining characteristic of humanity, revealing the contradictions and inscrutability of human feelings through the uncanny valley effect and the impossibility of true communication between humans and AI. Meanwhile, Positive Bricsk presents a futuristic city built upon the power of science and technology. In Positive City, the positive emotions of its citizens color the urban landscape and contribute to the city's very existence, whereas negative emotions are strictly eliminated as threats to stability and maintenance. Hao critiques the instrumental rationality of science and technology when it leads to human alienation, oppression, or dehumanization. She suggests that by embracing both the brightness and darkness of emotions, humanity can reclaim its true nature.
