A Study on Local Space Characteristic and Symbolism of Native Place, Korean Traditional Landscape ‘Woosil[村垣]’ - Focusing on Amtaedo and Jido, Sinan-Gun -

Entailed are mechanism and faith to refine disharmony and conflict created from social acts and established are norms and rituals to proceed social process. Especially, these parts are strongly existent in the insular area advantageous in geography and climate. Then questions are raised as to “inland village forests have equivocal meanings, what implications on earth does Woosil contain?” Also “why does Wool structure and form have different form and structure?”. Regretfully, studies related Woosil are rarely known. Of course, the village forest formed alongside the land has been much known since 1990, and a lot of performances have been accumulated in many academic areas such as study cases, landscape architecture, geography, architecture, sociology, anthropology, Korean literature, and folklore about farming village or traditional village with village forest. However, a profound study has not been conducted about Woosil as the village forest form of special type in insular area.
Thus this study is conducted to explore the rarely-known insular Woosil structure like its composition, form and patter, and analyze the functional characteristic related to its use form. Also the study clarifies what Woosil acted as the local historical and cultural space, how Woosil as this traditional composition has been inherited and developed as modern functional aspect, and it is not inherited, then make clear it is the basic stage to find out how we should develop and inherit it in the future. Through follow-up researchers, the study would explain Woosil's status and various characteristics reflecting Sinan-gun's local features, put together them, and devise the modern succession development plans of Woosil as our traditional component revealing in insular area.
This study was conducted to organize and consider the concept of Woosil through bibliographical research and local investigation for Woosil Ikgeum-ri, Woosil Songgok-ri Amtaedo Jeonnam, and Woosil space Taecheon Village, Jido as case spaces, analyse the the physical formation background and formation reason, purpose and use form, scenery and ecological characteristic of Woosil, and explore the form, value and the significance of Woosil, and reached the following conclusion.
