지역사회와 함께하는 대학 미술 전시에서 도슨트의 역할과 교육적 의미 고찰 - ‘프롬 더 비기닝’ 전을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Role of Docent and its Educational meaning in college art exhibitions with local communities: Focusing on’ From the beginning’exhibition)

초록

현대 사회의 변화에 함께 뮤지엄도 문화향유 및 복합문화공간의 성격을 지닌 사회교육기관으로서의 역할이 강조되고 있다. 뮤지엄은 관람객의 적극적 참여와 소통을 통해 대화가 이루어지는 교육적 플랫폼으로서 지역의 특성을 기반으로 다양한 전시나 교육프로그램을 통하여 지역사회에 대한 관심을 갖도록 함으로써 지역사회의 정체성을 형성하고 지역 주민 삶의 질을 향상하는데 노력해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 지역사회와 함께한 대학 미술 전시 <프롬 더 비기닝>전에서 도슨트의 체험적 특성을 기반으로 하여 뮤지엄 최전선에서 작품과 관람객을 소통시켜주는 도슨트의 역할과 교육적 의미를 살펴보았다. 이는 경인교육대학교 내 지누지움관 개관을 기념하는 <프롬 더 비기닝>전을중심으로 2018년 3월부터 6월까지 총 4개월간 진행되었다. 연구 참여자로는 전시에서 작품을 매개로 관람객과 소통하며 감상경험을 공유하는 도슨트 6명이 참여하였다. 연구기간에는 전시 해설을 진행하기 위한 도슨트 사전 준비 활동, 도슨트 전개 활동, 도슨트 정리 활동 등을 중심으로 연구자를 포함하여 도슨트 활동에 참여한 6명을 참여관찰하고 심층 인터뷰 등을 통해 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 도슨트의 역할로 지역사회와 전시의 관계 이해하기, 작품 연구하기, 관람객과 소통하기 등을 살펴보았다. 그 교육적 의미로 관람객은 ‘질문하기’를 통한 사고의 확장, 체험을 통한 상호작용적 관계의 형성, 소통을 통한 자아 정체성 구축 등을 할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 미술작품을 보는 행위에서 미술관이라는 장소와 문화가 연결되어 그 자체를 해석의 대상으로 설정하고 우리 관점과 인식을 확장시키는 뮤지엄 리터러시로까지 확대됨을 발견할 수 있었다.

영어초록

Along with the changes of the modern-day society, the role of museums as a social educational institution providing culture enjoyment and complex cultural space is being emphasized. As an educational platform allowing dialogues through active participation and communication of the visitors, museums should make efforts to form the identity of each local community and improve quality of life of the local residents, by encouraging visitors to have interest in the community through diverse exhibitions and educational programs based on the characteristics of the region. This study inquired into the roles of docents and their educational significance facilitating communication between works of art and visitors in the front line of the museums based on their empirical characteristics through the university exhibition “From the Beginning,” in which local community participated together. For the purpose of this, the research was carried out for three months from April to June of 2018 in the exhibition of “From the Beginning” held in celebration of the opening of Ginuseum inside Gyeongin National University of Education. As research participants, six docents, who communicate and share appreciation experience with visitors by means of works of art, were selected. During the research period, a qualitative study was conducted through participant observation of six docents and me, in quality of a researcher, and in-depth interviews with them, focused on their preparatory activities as docents, development activities as docents and arrangement activities as docents for exhibition explanation. Regarding the roles of docents, this study inquired about understanding the correlation between local community and exhibition, researching the works of art and communicating with visitors. In terms of their educational significance, this enabled the visitors to expand thoughts through “asking questions,” form interactive relationship through experience, and establish ego identity through communication. Through this, it was possible to extend even toward “museum literacy” allowing visitors to establish the museum itself as an object of interpretation and expand their perspectives and awareness in connection with the place called a museum.
