제19대 대선 출구조사 결과 분석과 의미 (An Analysis of the long-form exit poll for the 19th presidential election in Korea and its implication)

초록

본 연구는 우리나라 최초의 심층 출구조사(long-form exit poll)가 실시된 제19대 대선투표에 대한 분석 결과이다. 제19대 대선 출구조사는 후보자별 지지율 예측뿐만 아니라 지지율에 대한 인구사회학적 요인, 투표 결정요인, 차기 정부과제, 정치 성향 등을 함께 조사했다는 특징을 지닌다. 심층 출구조사 분석 결과, 투표자 연령과 지역 요인이 후보자 지지율에 결정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 투표자 정치 성향은 투표 결정요인과 차기 정부과제 우선순위에 가장 중요하게 영향을 준 것으로 나타났다. 문재인 후보 지지자의 정치 성향은 중도에서 약간 진보로 이동한 ‘중도적 진보’로 파악되었으며, 보수 성향 투표자의 분열과 중도성향 투표자의 지지가 문재인 후보의 당선 이유임을 알 수 있었다. 문재인 후보와 그의 지지자 간 정치이념성향의 간극은 홍준표 후보와 그의 지지자간 이념성향보다 더 크게 나타났다. 투표자들의 정치이념성향, 세대, 지역, 정치이념성향에 관계없이 경제 활성화와 일자리 창출을 가장 시급한 국정 현안으로 인식하였으며, 차기 정부의 우선 개혁대상으로 국회와 정당, 검찰을 꼽았다. 대선기간 주요 이슈였던 권력구조, 사드배치 찬반, 세금 및 복지수준 등과 관련해서는 세대 및 지역 차이가 명확하게 드러났다. 한국사회의 방향타는 나이가 어릴수록 많은 비율을 차지하는 중도성향 유권자의 선택에 의해 결정될 가능성이 높아졌다. 전통적인 여론조사를 기반으로 한 기존 연구와의 비교를 통해 세대균열은 고정된 연령효과와 세대의 특성을 그대로 유지하는 코호트효과가 공존하고, 세대균열과 정치이념성향은 3개의 그룹으로 움직이는 동반효과를 보였다. 정책이슈 투표는 정책이슈 내에 숨어있는 내재변수인 연령과 정치이념성향을 통해 구현되었으며, 다른 세대를 견제하기 위해 투표하는 세대갈등 효능감이 투표율의 결집을 불러온다는 기존연구 결과는 19대 대선에는 나타나지 않았다.

영어초록

We analyze the 19th presidential election as the first long-form exit poll in Korea. This exit poll not only predicts the candidates’ support rates but also investigates the effects of demographic factors, voting decision factors, the next govermental tasks, and political propensities on election approval rates. As a result of the long-form exit poll, voters age and region had a decisive influence on candidate support rate, and voter political propensity was the most important factor in voting decision and the next government priority. The political propensity of Moon Jae In’s supporters was found to be ‘moderate progressive’ which is shifted from moderate to slightly progressive, the breakup of conservative voters and the high support of moderate voters were the main result of the 19th presidential election.
Candidate Moon Jae-in and his supporters are far more distant from political ideology between candidate Hong Joon-pyo and his supporters. Regardless of generation, region, or political propensity, voters considered the economic revitalization and job creation as the urgent issue of national affairs, and pointed out the National Assembly, political parties, and the prosecution as priority reform targets. Regarding the power structure, THAAD deployment, tax and welfare, which were major issues during the presidential election, generation gap and regional difference were clearly revealed. It is more likely that the direction of Korea depends on the choice of the moderate political voters that increase as voters are younger. Compared with the previous studies based on traditional opinion polls, the generational cracks coexist with the fixed age effect and the cohort effect that maintains the characteristics of the generation, and the generational crack and the political propensity are accompanied by three groups. Cleavage voting was implemented through the age and political propensity but not through policy issues, and it is shown that the previous research that the generation conflict efficacy voting to block up other generations made the turnout high is not valid in the 19th presidential election.
