생흔분석을 통한 조간대 퇴적작용의 계절변화: 강화도 남부 여차리 조간대 (Seasonal sedimentation of intertidal flat revealed by distribution of ichnofacies: Southern tidal flat (Yeochari) of Ganghwa Island)

초록

하구형 조간대인 강화도 남부의 여차리 조간대에서 2003년 겨울(1월)과 여름(8월)에 채취한 시료의 표층퇴적물 특성, 퇴적상과 생흔상을 연계하여 조간대를 정밀하게 분류하고 계절변화 양상을 파악하였다. 여차리 조간대는 조위특성에 의해 상부와 중부 조간대로 구분되며, 중부 조간대는 지형적 특성(조수로의 발달여부)에 의해 상부와 하부로 다시 나누어진다. 상부 조간대에서 우세한 퇴적상은 생교란된 니질 퇴적상이며, 생흔구조는 Psilonichnus가 우세하다. 중부 조간대의 상부에서는 사질/니질의 교호 퇴적상과 조류우세 연흔이 우세하게 나타나며 이매패류에 의해 형성되는 Bivalve burrow와 Lockeia가 우세하며 소형 이매패류와 고동류의 외피가 퇴적물 내에 다수 포함되어 있다. 중부 조간대 하부에서는 평행 엽층리의 사질 퇴적상과 파랑 우세 연흔 또는 파랑/조류 복합연흔이 우세하며, Echiurus burrows, Cylindrichnus, Skolithos, Cryptic bioturbation이 주로 나타난다. 특히 Cryptic bioturbation은 조수로 외해측에서 특징적으로 관찰된다. 시료에서 관찰되는 생교란 지수를 보면 전체적으로 여름과 겨울에 동일하거나 유사하게 측정되지만, 3.3-4.1 km 지역에서는 여름철에 겨울보다 높은 생교란 지수가 관찰된다. 표층퇴적상 분석에 의하면 여차리 조간대는 여름에는 혼성 조간대가 확장되고 니질과 사질 조간대는 축소되지만, 겨울에는 혼성조간대가 축소되면서 니질대와 사질 조간대가 확장되는 양상을 보여준다. 이러한 퇴적상의 계절변화는 혼성조간대에서 우세한 Potamocorbula laevis와 사질조간대에서 우세한 Echiurus burrows의 분포와 변화에 있어서도 유사한 양상을 보인다. 여차리 삼각주-하구형 조간대의 생흔상과 퇴적상은 개방형 조간대인 두우리 조간대와 매우 상이하다. 이러한 생흔상과 퇴적상을 연계한 연계퇴적상의 계절변화는 고기 연안퇴적환경을 보다 정밀하게 해석하는데 유용하게 사용될 수 있다고 판단된다.

영어초록

An estuarine Yeochari intertidal flat, southern tidal flat of Ganghwa Island, has been divided and interpreted in terms of the seasonal variation of surface sedimentary facies and the combination of sedimentary- and ichno-facies based on the core samples and surface morphology in the winter and summer seasons, 2003. It can be divided into the upper and middle intertidal flats according to tide level, and the middle flat is further divided into the upper and lower parts based on the presence of tidal channel. The upper intertidal flat is dominated by bioturbated mud facies which Psilonichnus ichnofacies are common. The upper middle flat is dominated by alternated sand/mud facies and ripple cross-laminated sand facies formed by tidal current, which show the dominant ichnofacies of Bivalve burrow and Lockeia and include a lot of bivalve and gastropod fragments. On the other hand, the lower middle flat is dominated by parallel laminated sand and wave ripple or combined ripple cross- laminated facies, which show the dominant ichnofacies of Echiurus burrows, Cylindrichnus, Skolithos and Cryptic bioturbation. The Cryptic bioturbation occurs characteristically in the offshore part of tidal channel. In general, the Bioturbation Indices (B.I.) are similar in both the core samples of summer and winter seasons, except for the interval between 3.3 and 4.1 km which has clearly higher values in the summer deposit. The mixed flat has been expanded during summer, while mud- and sand-flats have been contracted during the same period. On the other hand, the mixed flat has been contracted during winter season, whereas mud- and sand-flats have been expanded. The ichnofacies Potamocorbula laevis and Echiurus burrows, which are dominant on mixed and sand flats respectively, tend to show a similar distribution and seasonal change to those of sedimentary facies. The ichno- and sedimentary-facies in the Yeochari deltaic estuarine intertidal flat are considerably different from those which occur in the open-coast Doouri intertidal flat located in the further southern coast. The seasonal variation of sedimentary facies combined with ichnofacies will be invaluable for the detailed interpretation of many ancient coastal depositional environments.
