한국 대통령 선거방송토론에 나타난 후보자 설득전략에 영향을 미치는 요인 : 17대·18대·19대 대통령선거를 중심으로 (Factors Affecting Candidate Persuasion Strategies in Korean Presidential Election Broadcasting Debates: Focusing on the 17th, 18th and 19th presidential elections)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 국내 선거방송토론에서 나타난 후보자의 설득전략 차이를 후보 지지도, 토론형식, 참석 후보자 수를 독립변인으로 설정하여 분석하는 것이다. 이 세 요인은 국내 정치제도의 특징을 반영하고 있으며 선거방송토론의 구조에 영향을 미치는 실질적 요인이기도 하다. 기존 연구 성과에 입각하여 이 세 요인을 독립변인으로 설정하여 대통령후보자들의 설득전략과 관련한 연구가설을 연역적 방법으로 도출하였다. 분석자료는 17대, 18대, 19대 대통령선거 당시 방영된 선거방송토론의 녹취록을 내용분석하여 수집하였다. 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 후보자 지지도에 따른 설득전략의 차이는 지지도가 높은 후보일수록 공격 비율이 적어지고, 방어비율이 늘어나는 경향을 보여 연구가설이 지지됐다. 두 번째로 후보자간의 공방을 보면, 공격과 방어 모두 당선가능성이 높은 후보를 대상으로 많이 이루어진다는 가설이 지지됐다. 세 번째, 연설형식에서는 주장비율이 모든 후보군에서 높게 나타났다. 질의응답형식과 상호토론형식에서는 후보자 지지도가 높을수록 공격전략이 감소하고 방어전략이 늘어났다. 네 번째, 연설형식에서 참석후보자 수가 늘어남에 따라 주장전략이 줄어들고 공격전략이 늘어나는 경향을 보였다. 질의응답형식과 상호토론형식에서는 참석 후보자 수가 많을수록 공격전략이 증가하고 방어전략이 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 본 연구의 결과는 3가지 구조적 요인이 후보자들이 설득전략을 다르게 활용하는 현상을 통계적으로 유의미한 수준으로 설명할 수 있다는 것을 확인해 주며, 나아가 이론적 연구과정의 확장에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of candidate's persuasion strategy in the domestic election broadcasting debate by the popularity ratings of candidates, number of candidates attending, debate formats as independent variables. These three factors reflect the characteristics of Korea domestic political system and are a real factor affecting the structure of the election broadcasting debates. Based on the results of previous studies, we deducted the research hypotheses related to persuasion strategies of presidential candidates by deductive methods according to these three factors. Analysis data were analyzed by analyzing the transcripts of election broadcasting debates which were broadcasted during the election of the 17th, 18th, and 19th presidents. The main results are summarized as follows. First, the research hypothesis was supported because differences in persuasion strategies according to the candidate approval ratings tend to decrease the attack rate and increase the defense rate as the candidates with higher support. Second, in relation to the candidates' attack and defense strategy, the hypothesis was supported that both attack and defense were made for candidates with a high potential for election. Third, in the format of speech, the percentage of acclaims was higher in all candidates. In the question - answer format and the interactive discussion format, the higher the popularity ratings of candidates, the less attack strategy and defense strategy. Fourth, as the number of candidates in the speech format increased, the acclaims strategy decreased and the attack strategy tended to increase. In the question - answer format and the interactive discussion format, the more the number of candidates, the more aggressive strategies and the less defensive strategies. The results of this study confirm that the three structural factors can explain statistically significant levels of the different use of persuasion strategies by candidates, and it is expected to contribute to the expansion of the theoretical research process.
