어느 유교상징의 위기와 지역 士族의 대응-순창 三印臺의 성역화 과정과 수호를 중심으로- (The Crisis of a Confucian Symbol and Responses of the Local Yangban -Focusing on the Sanctification Process and Protection of Samindae (三印臺) in Sunchang(淳昌)-)

초록

이 글은 순창 삼인대의 성역화 과정과 수호, 그 위기에 대응하는 지역 士族들의 방식에 대해 논구하였다. 1515년(중종 10) 三印臺에서 폐비 愼妃의 復位를 요청하는 상소를 올린 지 200여 년이 지난 후 愼妃가 復位됨과 동시에 삼인대의 장소적 상징성이 공인받았다. 그 후 삼인대 참여 인물의 순창 화산서원 배향, 碑文 제작, 碑閣 설립 등 성역화 과정을 계속 확대해 나아갔다. 특히 正祖의 삼인대 관련 御製는 국왕의 권위에 힘입어 성역 수호의 특권을 지속적으로 부여받는 원천으로 작용하였다. 삼인대의 위기와 함께 이를 수호하기 위한 방식으로는 비각보수 지원, 비각 10里 이내 松楸 보호, 偸葬과 경작 금지, 山直과 碑直 탈역 등이다. 이를 위해 官에 각종 청원과 탄원을 통해 해결하려고 했다. 삼인대 일대의 禁護를 위해서는 지방관으로 대표되는 관아의 협조가 필수적이기에 실제 효력에 있어서 제한적인 상태였다. 삼인대 성역의 특권을 지속적으로 재확인하는 노력을 경주하였다. 이후에도 성역의 침범이 지속적으로 이루어져 節目의 조항은 제대로 준수되지는 않았다. 또한 삼인대의 성역화 과정에는 金淨·朴祥·柳沃 三賢의 후손들이 주도적으로 노력을 쏟았다. 그 중 柳沃의 후손들의 활동이 주목되었는데 그들은 家格의 위상을 높이는 계기로 삼인대 성역화를 적극 활용하였다.

영어초록

This paper explores the process of sanctification of Samindae, a representative symbol of Confucian culture in Sunchang region, and the crisis of its being dismantling later on and responses to the crisis. This paper also looks into the responses and strategies of the local yangban in this process. Samindae was designated as a cultural property, and since the mid-1990s, commemorative events and cultural festivals have been held annually to honor the spirit of loyalty and filial piety.
In August 1515, three local government officials, Park Sang (朴祥), Kim Jeong (金淨), and Ryu Ok (柳沃), filed an appeal to reinstate the Deposed Queen Lady Shin, who had been deposed by meritorious subjects, and punish those subjects. However, the appeal failed at the time by the forces of the meritorious subjects. Then, in 1739, about 200 years later, Lady Shin was reinstated by King Yeongjo. 60 years later, King Jeongjo went to her tomb to hold a memorial service for her, and ordered the descendants of Park Sang and Kim Jeong to be appointed as officials.
As it became difficult to build a shrine near Samindae, a memorial stone was erected and a monument house was built at Samindae in April 1744. At that time, powerful people of the Noron (老論, a political faction of the Joseon Dynasty) participated in the writing of inscription on the memorial stone at Samindae. Then, in April 1787 (the 11th year of King Jeongjo), it was allowed to hold memorial services of Park Sang and Ryu Ok at Hwasanseowon (華山書院) in Sunchang.
However, given the circumstances of the Joseon Dynasty at the time, cooperation from the local government office was essential to protect the monument house and it vicinity. Drawing on the cause of honoring Samindae by sanctifying it mainly, the families of the descendants of the aforementioned three figures were given the privileges from the local government to take charge of the management of the site.
The families of descendants who managed Samindae appealed to the relevant officials in the central government, Jeolla-do, and Sunchang region, making efforts to maintain and preserve their privileges. In conclusion, it can be said that the sanctification of Samindae was a strategic option used by descendants of related families to reinforce their social status.
