미술치료의 상징과 주역(周易) 상징의 상관성 비교 연구-물과 달, 태양, 꽃, 산 주제를 중심으로 (A Comparative Study on the Correlation between the Symbols of Art Therapy and the Symbols of Zhouyi(周易)-focused on the motifs of Water, Moon, Sun, Flower and Mountain)

초록

본 연구는 내담자의 무의식적 내용물이 상징적으로 표현된 미술작품을 해석할 때 적용하는 미술치료의 상징이 가진 보편성과 더불어 그 문화적 맥락의 특수성을 함께 조명해서, 내담자의 심리를 더 잘 이해할 수 있는 방법론을 모색하려는 것이다. 이를 위해 우리의 문화에서 상징의 저수지로 평가되는 『주역』의 상징과 미술치료의 상징을 비교하여 그 상관성을 살펴보고자 한다. 분석심리학의 창시자 융은 인간을 이해하기 위해서는 개인무의식 뿐만 아니라, 집단무의식까지 알아야 한다고 했다. 개인무의식은 개인의 성장배경에 따른 환경이 우선이지만, 집단무의 식은 개인이 속한 역사와 문화의 오랜 경험을 포함하고 있다. 이는 집단무의식의 기초를 구성하는 원형적 이미지들 을 이해하기 위해서는 상징의 보편성뿐만 아니라 문화적 상대성도 고려해야 하는 것을 함축한다. 우리나라는 동양 문화권에 있기 때문에 서양에서 발단된 기존의 미술치료에서 제시된 상징만으로 우리나라 내담자의 심리를 해석할 때 충분한 해석에 이르지 못했다는 임상적 경험을 외면하기 힘들다. 따라서 미술치료의 상징적 의미를 온전하게 분석하려는 취지로서 동양의 오래된 학문인 『주역』을 토대로 미술치료 상징성과의 상관성을 모색하였다. 미술치료 의 주요한 주제들 가운데 물과 달, 태양, 꽃, 산은 『주역』 중에서 감괘(坎卦, ☵), 리괘(離卦, ☲), 진괘(震卦, ☳), 간괘(艮卦, ☶) 등과 공통적인 상징적 내용이 있었다. 또한 이들 4괘를 64괘로 확충해서 그 상징을 검토하여 해석을 확장할 수 있는 방법을 찾을 수 있었다. 이러한 시도는 우리문화의 정체성에 맞는 상징체계를 갖추어 내담 자의 심리를 좀 더 깊게 이해할 수 있는 방법론을 모색하는 과정으로서, 본 연구는 동서의 통합적 관점으로 심리치 료 적용의 확장성 여부를 시도하려고 한 점에서 그 의의가 있다고 사료된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to examine a methodology that can better understand the client’s psychology by shedding light on the universality and the specificity of the cultural context that is applied together when interpreting art works whose unconscious content is symbolically represented. To this end, we will examine the correlation between Zhouyi’s symbols and the art therapy’s symbols, which are regarded as reservoirs of symbols in our culture. Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, said that in order to understand humans, one must know not only the individual unconsciousness, but also the collective unconsciousness. Individual unconsciousness is formed by the environment based on the background of personal growth, but collective unconsciousness includes a long experience of the history and culture to which individuals belong. This implies not only the universality of symbols but also the cultural relativity to understand the archetypal images that form the basis of collective unconsciousness. Since Korea is located in the East Asian culture, it is hard to ignore the clinical experience that the symbol presented in the existing art therapy originated in the West did not reach sufficient interpretation when interpreting our client’s psychology. Thus, in order to analyze the symbolic meaning of art therapy in full, we sought correlation with the symbolism of art therapy based on Zhouyi, an ancient literature of the East Asian. Water, moon, sun, flower, and mountain among the main motifs of art therapy have the symbolic meanings in common with K’an(☵), Li(☲), Ch’en(☳) and Kên(☶) in Zhouyi. In addition, the four trigrams were expanded to 64 Hexagrams to examine the symbols and find a way to expand the interpretation. These attempts are intended to develop a symbolic system suitable for the identity of our culture and seek a methodology that can further understand the psychology of the client, and the study is thought to be meaningful in its attempt to try to expand the application of art therapy from an integrated perspective of the East Asian.
