코스닥시장에서 국제다각화 기업의 대리인비용이 경영성과와 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Agency Cost of International Diversified Enterprises on Management Performance and Corporate Value in KOSDAQ Market)

초록

[연구목적]본 연구는 코로나 19 이후 우리나라 코스닥시장에서 국제다각화기업만을 한정하여 기업의 대리인비용이 경영성과와 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하는 것이다.
[연구방법]표본은 코로나 19가 시작된 2019에서 2023년까지의 5년 동안 본연구의 표본선정 조건을 모두 충족한 4,275개 표본을 선정하여 실증분석 결과를 도출하였다. 본 연구에서는 자산회전율과 접대비 비율 그리고 판매비와관리비와 여유현금흐름 비율을 대리인 비용의 대용치로 사용하였으며 경영성과의 대용치는 자산순이익률, 기업가치의 대용치 Tobin Q를 사용하였다.
[연구결과] 다변량회귀분석 결과, 첫째, 코스닥시장의 국제다각화 기업에서는 자산회전율이 높을수록 경영성과가 높았으며, 접대비 비율이 적절히 통제될수록 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 또한 판매비와관리비에 대한 적절한 통제도 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 영업현금흐름은 예상처럼 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 다만, 여유현금비율의 경우 예상과 달리 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 이는 코로나 팬데믹을 겪으며 기업이 보유한 현금비율이 매우 낮아 경영성과와 관련성이 낮았음을 유추할 수 있었다.
둘째, 코로나 팬데믹 이후 코스닥시장의 국제다각화 기업에서는 자산회전율이 높을수록 기업가치가 낮게 나타났으며, 접대비 비율과 판매비와관리비 및 여유현금비율이 높을수록 기업가치가 낮아지는 결과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 코로나 19의 영향에 기인한 특수한 상황으로 판단되어진다.
[연구의 시사점]본 연구의 결과, 코로나 19 이후 우리나라 코스닥시장에서 국제다각화 기업의 대리인 비용에 대한 적절한 통제가 기업의 경영성과에만 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 기업가치와의 관련성에서는 정 반대의 결과를 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 코스닥시장에서 국제다각화 기업들이 대리인 비용을 적절히 통제할 수 있는 메커니즘을 구축함으로써 기업의 경영성과를 제고시키고, 기업가치를 증가시키기 위한 근거가 될 것으로 판단된다.

영어초록

[Purpose] This study is to verify the effect of corporate agent costs on management performance and corporate value by limiting only international diversification companies in the KOSDAQ market in Korea after COVID-19.
[Methodology]The sample was selected from 4,275 samples that met all the sample selection conditions of this study for five years from 2019 to 2023, when COVID-19 began, and the results of empirical analysis were derived. In this study, asset turnover and entertainment cost ratio, sales and management costs, and free cash flow ratio were used as substitutes for agent costs, and Tobin Q, a substitute for asset net income and corporate value, was used as a substitute for management performance.
[Findings]As a result of multivariate regression analysis, first, in international diversification companies in the KOSDAQ market, the higher the asset turnover ratio, the higher the management performance, and the more properly controlled the entertainment cost ratio, the more positively the management performance was found. In addition, it was found that proper control over sales and management costs had a positive effect on management performance. Operating cash flow had a positive effect on management performance as expected. However, the free cash ratio was not statistically significant, contrary to expectations. It could be inferred that the cash ratio held by companies during the Corona pandemic was very low, and thus the relationship with management performance was low.
Second, in international diversified companies in the KOSDAQ market after the COVID-19 pandemic, the higher the asset turnover ratio, the lower the corporate value, and the higher the entertainment cost ratio, sales cost, management cost, and free cash ratio, the lower the corporate value. These results are judged to be a special situation due to the impact of COVID-19.
[Implications]As a result of this study, it was found that proper control over the agency costs of international diversified companies in the Korean KOSDAQ market after COVID-19 has a positive effect only on the management performance of the company. In terms of the relationship with corporate value, the opposite result was shown. These results are considered to be the basis for enhancing corporate management performance and increasing corporate value by establishing a mechanism for international diversified companies to properly control agent costs in the KOSDAQ market.
