무형자산과 무형자산성 지출이 기업가치에 미치는 영향：코스닥시장을 중심으로 (The Effects of Intangible Assets and Intangible Asset Expenditure on Corporate Value ：A Focus on Firms Listed on the KOSDAQ Market)

초록

[연구목적] 우리나라 코스닥 시장에서 무형자산의 가치기여 성장세는 이례적이고 가파르다. 2018년 이미 무형자산가치 기여가 유형자산을 넘어 54%에 이르렀으며, 코로나 19 이후 디지털화와 언텍트, 인구 고령화는 지속성․유연성․확장성․불변성을 바탕으로 무형자산의 중요성을 가속화 하고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 코스닥시장에서 무형자산과 무형자산성 지출이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다.
[연구방법] 무형자산 변수는 선행연구에서 사용한 무형자산 총계, 산업재산권, 개발비를 선정하였고 무형자산성지출은 연구개발비, 광고선전비, 교육훈련비를 선정하여 실증분석하였다. 연구표본은 2011년에서 2020년까지의 코스닥시장에 상장된 12월말 결산법인 중 비금융업 9,694개 표본이다.
[연구결과] 본 연구의 실증분석 결과, 첫째, 무형자산 변수인 무형자산 총계, 산업재산권, 개발비 모두 무형자산의 비중이 높을수록 기업가치가 높게 나타났으며 통계적으로도 유의하였다. 둘째, 무형자산성지출 변수인 연구개발비, 광고선전비, 교육훈련비 모두에서 기업가치에 유의한 양의 관련성을 나타내었다.
[연구의 시사점] 본 연구의 결과, 코스닥시장에서 무형자산과 무형자산성 지출은 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 이는 현행 국제회계기준이 무형자산성 지출의 자산화를 엄격하게 통제하고 있는바, 향후 정부의 정책 입안 시 코스닥시장의 무형자산 지출에 대한 정부의 지원정책과 무형자산성지출의 자산화에 대한 용이성 등에 대한 근거가 될 수도 있다는 점에서 연구의 공헌점이 있다고 판단된다.

영어초록

[Purpose] In the KOSDAQ market, the growth of intangible assets contributing to the value is unusual and steep. In 2018, the contribution of intangible asset value has already exceeded tangible assets and reached 54%, and since COVID－19, digitalization, the increase in untact business, and population－aging have accelerated the importance of intangible assets based on sustainability, flexibility, expansion, and invariance. From this perspective, this study verified the effects of intangible assets and intangible asset expenditure on corporate value in the KOSDAQ market.
[Methodology] The present study employed variables regarding intangible assets including the total amount of intangible assets, industrial property rights, and development expenses, which have been used in prior research. In addition, this study employed variables regarding intangible asset expenditure including research and development expenses, advertising expenses, and education and training expenses. An empirical analysis was conducted with data obtained from 9,694 non－financial firms among the corporations settled at the end of December every year and listed on the KOSDAQ market from 2011 to 2020.
[Findings] The results of the empirical analysis are as follows. First, the total of intangible assets, industrial property rights, and development costs positively lead to corporate value. Second, there was a significant positive relationship with corporate value in all of the R&D expenses, advertising expenses, and education and training expenses.
[Implications] It is confirmed that intangible assets and intangible asset expenditure have positive effects on corporate value. The results of the current study may serve as the basis for the government’s policy－making policy for intangible asset expenditures in the KOSDAQ market and ease of intangible asset expenditures in the sense that the current international accounting standards strictly control the assetization of intangible asset expenditures.
