초록

국제화 시대라고 불리 우는 21세기는 외국인과의 결혼을 통해 자녀를 낳고 한국 사회에 정착하는 ‘다문화가정’이 점차 늘어나고 있다. 국제결혼 비율은 1990년대 전반만 하더라도 총 결혼 건수 대비 1%대에 지나지 않았지만, 2000년대 전반에 급격히 증가한 이래 지금까지 10% 이상의 비율을 꾸준히 유지하고 있다.
특히 농촌 총각들의 국내 결혼 어려움으로 인하여 이러한 수치는 매년 증가할 것으로 보이며 이로 인하여 다문화가정 자녀의 수도 큰 폭으로 증가할 것으로 전망된다. 다문화가정 자녀는 외모의 차이로 인한 사회적인 편견뿐만 아니라 이들의 가정이 가지고 있는 다양한 문화적, 경제적 배경, 그리고 의사소통의 문제 등으로 인하여 원만한 성장과 발달에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 또한 다문화가정 아동들은 교육문제 특히 언어교육 한글에 관한 문제는 최근 여러 연구들을 통하여 논의 되어 오고 있다. 다문화 가정 아동들은 부모 간 사용하는 언어가 다름으로 인하여 이중 언어 환경에서 자라나게 되고, 그로인해 언어 발달이 지체될 가능성이 높아지게 된다. 다문화가정 아동들은 언어적, 사회적, 문화적 배경의 차이로 인하여 언어 발달의 지체, 정체성의 혼란, 정서적 불안, 학습 부진 등의 학교생활 부적응 현상을 나타내는 경우가 많다. 이러한 문제 상황에 적절히 대처하기 위해서는 학교에서는 다문화 가정 학생들의 상태를 조기에 파악하여 적절한 교육적 처방을 할 필요가 있다. 물론 다문화가정 아동들이 한국어를 비교적 잘 하며 대화 과정에서 의사소통에는 큰 문제가 없지만 동화나 책을 읽는 과정에서 억양이 약간 다르거나, 낱말을 이해하지 못하는 경우도 있으며 아이들이 유아기에 한국말이 서투른 외국인 어머니와 함께 살기 때문에 언어발달이 늦어지며, 독해와 어휘력, 쓰기, 작문 능력이 현저히 떨어지므로 말로 하는 언어보다는 문자 언어 교육이 더욱 절실히 중요하다. 일반적으로 아동들이 학습하는 한글 기초교재의 구성은 단어 위주로 되어 있어 아동은 제시된 단어들을 일일이 기억해야 하며 이로 인해 아동은 문자와 친숙해지기 어렵다. 또한 기존교재의 일러스트레이션은 단어의 의미만을 표현하고 있어 닿글자나 홀 글자에 대한 이해가 전혀 없는 상태에서 학습함으로써 고학년이 되어서도 철자법을 이해하지 못하는 어려움을 겪고 있다. 그러므로 아동들 특히 다문화 아동들이 한글을 잘 인지할 수 있는 교육이 필요하다.
본 연구에서는 한글 교재의 일러스트레이션이 단어의 의미만을 강조하는 것에서 벗어나 시각이나 청각, 촉각 등의 아동의 감각을 활용하고 자극할 수 있는 일러스트레이션을 사용하는 것이 다문화 아동들의 한글 이해에 더욱 효과적이라는 것을 제시하기 위하여 다문화 가정 아동들의 한글 학습교재의 일러스트레이션 개선의 필요성을 제시하려 한다.

The multicultural family is referred to the family with multi-culture including many different cultures.
Multicultural families include families through international marriage, foreign workers’ families and refugee families, but children of multicultural families are referred to children of female immigrant for marriage and foreign workers. Children of multicultural families have experienced the difficulty in smooth growth and development due to social prejudices caused by different appearance as well as various cultural and economic backgrounds and problems in communications. In the process of transforming into a multicultural society, education issues, in particular, Korean language education is being recently discussed and appearance of Korean education becomes very diverse.
Many children of multicultural families show often maladaptive phenomenon in school life such as language development delay, identity confusion, emotional instability and poor academic performance due to differences in language, social or cultural backgrounds. In order to cope with this situation, education institutes need to identify the condition of children of multicultural families and give an appropriate educational treatment.
This study identifies the current situation of Korean language teaching materials for children of multicultural families and selects and analyzes Korean language education teaching materials.
Even if it is said that children of multicultural families speak Korean relatively well and they do not have a big problem in communication, they have slightly different accents or do not understand some words when reading a book.
Because they live with a mother who is a foreigner and does not speak Korean well in their early childhood, language development gets slow and abilities of reading, vocabulary and writing significantly fall behind. Thus, language education with letters is more important than education with speaking. Among five senses, people can accept 90% of information through visual sense. Therefore, the formation of concept is made more clearly through perception of shape rather than hearing media and the effect of recognition is large.
In case of children, the educational effect is higher by explaining and conveying the contents through visual education rather than explaining the concept or contents through language.
This study analyzed the role, function, educational effect and problem of illustration for Korean education for children of multi-cultural families and showed that children had difficulty to understand the spelling since it presented only words and meaning. Thus, it was shown that illustration which utilized and stimulated senses such as visual, auditory and touch should be used to let them recognize Korean better with a consideration of children's learning ability. In addition, this study presented the improvement plan and the need for illustration of desired Korean language teaching materials which expect more educational effects on understanding Korean by induching attention and interest of children of multi-cultural families into contents of education naturally.
