다문화 담론과 다문화 생활세계의 변증법 －새로운 다문화 공통감각(sensus communis) 형성을 위한 시론－ (A Dialectic Between Multicultural Discourse and Multicultural World of Life: An Attempt for the Formation of a Multicultural Sensus Communis-)

초록

이 글은 ‘다문화 생활세계’의 관점에서 새로운 ‘다문화 공통감각’ 형성의필요성을 제기하고, ‘다문화 삶의 기예’의 과제와 기본적 방향을 제시하려고시도한다. 이러한 시도가 다문화 논의를 이론적 담론의 향연에서 벗어나 적극적이고 실천적인 문화형성 방향으로 전환시킬 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.
오늘날 우리에게 필요한 것은 우리가 ‘다문화-내-존재(In der Multikultur-Sein)’라는 근본상황을 인정하는 것이다. 이미 언급한 것처럼 문화적 다양성이 반드시갈등으로만 귀결되는 것이 아니라, 새로운 문화의 창출에 기여할 수도 있다.
또한 다문화 생활세계로 유입되는 풍부한 자원이 창조적으로 결합되기 위해서는 ‘숙성’의 과정이 필요하다. 이러한 숙성은 ‘우회로’와 혼종성의 과정을 통해진행된다. 이런 과정을 통해 우리는 자연스럽게 (단일문화의) ‘선형적 발전’이아니라 (다문화의) ‘나선형의 발전’을 기대할 수 있다. 이러한 방향으로 나아가기 위해서는 ‘통속적 다문화이해’, 즉 펠만이 지적하는 “다문화적 소박성”을탈피하고 성찰적 다문화 이해에 기초하여 공동체를 위한 새로운 다문화 공통감각을 형성해야만 한다. 또한 이 공통 감각은 궁극적으로 인간의 행복과 인간다움에 근거해야 하며, 그로부터 특정한 사회에 필요한 삶의 양식과 삶의 기예가‘삶이라는 원칙’의 보편적 관점에서 제시될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

Globally, there are circumstances that are unfavorable to multiculturalism. At the same time, there is a reluctance to return to the mono-culture. We cansee this move toward multiculturalism in the preference for discourses andrepresentations in critical multiculturalism, cultural pluralism etc. which coulddilute so-called “~ism”. In spite of the crisis of multiculturalism, multiculturalsociety does not exist as a problem to be overcome. Multiculturalism is a product of history, an inevitable matter, through past, present and future of human society. Therefore, rather than merely expressing perspectives about multiculturalism basedon politics and religion, we need discussions that can contribute to the formationof a community and solve existing problems. When heterogeneous groups whicha wide range of different traditions and cultural backgrounds come to live together,conflicts are unavoidable. The focus should not be on the fact that there areproblems but on the seriousness of the problems. Despite all the differences andconcerns, many people in a multicultural society “generally” or “externally” maintainharmonious social relationships. Such harmony is achieved by members of thecommunity who comply with the basic rules for the maintenance of the community.
Therefore, successful settlement in the multicultural society will depend on whetherit is possible to propose a set of codes of conduct which are based on clearbasic rules. Although any type of theoretical attempts to present a universalethical foundation is not a popular subject, if we cannot even secure social contractsfor the life of community, we may face a serious crisis in the future.
This article raises the need for a ‘multicultural world of life(Lebenswelt)’, toencompass not only the ‘crisis’ and ‘problems’ which are the main discoursesof multiculture, but also the ‘opportunities’ and ‘benefits’, so presenting the needfor a ‘new multicultural common sense’. Furthermore, it tries to propose a basicdirection for life in a multicultural society. I believe this attempt to be an opportunityto convert the wasteful feast of discourse of multiculturalism into ‘the agora’discussing the new formation of active and positive culture.
