초록

Many municipalities organize garden fairs. In doing so, attention should be paid to how to deliver the theme to visitors and how to convey locality, contexts, and uniqueness therein. This study aimed to examine how to effectively deliver the theme and how to express the space, time, and human sensations inherent in the garden, taking the Jikji Simche Garden at the 2018 Cheongju Gardening Festival as the subject of the study.
The key to the selection of the theme was the interpretation of Jikji, expressing perpetuality, historical significance and artistic beauty of Jikji. In the design process, the theme, the garden fair’s message, and the new strategic intention were organically expressed in the space. Symbolizing Jikji Simche Yojeol, Jujaso as the space for printing and making types was given a modern interpretation with keys and a variety of acrylic materials as symbols of light and winds. Sesimwon tells us the aspiration of the maker and the enlightenment of the Buddha. In hope of being like Jikji, Sesimwon was formed as a space to mentalize and appreciate the mountain and winds in the distant view. In the Jikji Garden, the Jikji Woldam shows the trace of time and the wax trees serve as key objects standing for the beeswax casting process in the past. This study has significance in that the focus was given to the locality, context and uniqueness of the garden as motives and design strategies to clearly express the given theme of the fair to visitors and new thinking and approaches were embraced and incorporated in the real space.
