종전선언과 반공기독교 성찰 ― 황석영의 『손님』을 중심으로 (A Reflection of Declaration of the End of the War and Anti-communistic Christianity in Korea — Focused on 『The Visitor(Son-Nim)』 written by Hwang Seok-young)

초록

Nowadays the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula, resembling the situation one hundred years ago in many ways, challenges us to seek peace urgently. While the ‘one people, two nations’ principle which was forced upon Korea by its division at the hands of foreign powers has taken hold, the desire for Reunification seems to have faded and its justification forgotten. In this context, this paper aims to retrace the meaning and value of the Declaration of the End of the War proposed by Moon Jae-in, South Korea president, at the 75th session of UN General Assembly in 2020. It was an expression of the long-cherished dream of the people, whether they belong to the South or the North in the same Peninsula, to establish everlasting peace by overcoming ‘the distorted liberation order’ as a follow up to south-north Korea summit of April 27, 2018. Moon’s proposal, however, was not followed through because of the obstacle of Covid-19 and the United States presidential election. The groups called ‘the divisional merchants’ were meanwhile busy peddling their fearocracy and demagogy. This author looks back on the ‘Shin Cheon massacre’ case portrayed in “the Visitor (Son Nim)” written by Hwang Seok-young, the famous Korean novelist, to deal with the problem of the connection between fear and politics. Here, I focus on Christian anti-communists who committed the massacre in the name of God at Shin Cheon and elsewhere. Further, this paper concludes by looking forward to creating the new ‘facilitating environment’ full of benevolence and hospitality through Biocracy which can be understood as the widening of Democracy by embracing the total ecosystem.
