요한서신에 나타난 하나님 나라 (The Kingdom of God in the Johannine Letters)

초록

예수는 하나님 나라의 도래를 자신의 공적 사역의 첫 선포로 외쳤다. 그의 사역과 결과의 모든 것이 하나님 나라와 관련 있다는 의미다. 실제로 하나님 나라는 예수의 사역과 가르침의 핵심 내용이었고, 이후 복음의 확장과 교회의 이야기를 담은 사도행전 과 서신서와 역사의 끝을 담은 계시록의 기본 틀이었다. 요한서신은 어떨까? 문제는 요한서신에는 하나님 나라라는 표현이 없다는 점이다. 그렇다면, 요한서신은 하나님 나라와 상관없을까? 본 논문은 요한서신에 나타난 하나님 나라를 고찰한다. 이를 위해 두 가지 방법을 사용한다. 첫째는 하나님 나라 개념의 재고찰이다. 신약의 여러 용법을 고찰한 후 통치 대신 통치권과 통치 백성 요소를 담은 ‘통치 영역’으로 볼 것을 제안한 다. 둘째는 하나님 나라의 세 요소, 곧 통치 영역과 통치권과 통치 백성을 범주로 요한 서신을 살피는 것이다. 본문에 대한 주의 깊은 관찰을 통해 본 논문은 요한서신이 하나 님 나라의 개념을 잘 보여주고 있음을 입증한다. (1) 통치 영역과 관련해, 요한서신은 기본적으로 현 세상을 빛과 어둠의 통치 영역이 서로 충돌하는 현장으로 이해한다. (2) 통치권자와 관련해, 각 통치 영역에는 시작자와 권위자가 있다. 빛의 영역의 통치권 자는 삼위 하나님이고, 어둠의 영역에서는 하나님께 반역하는 마귀(사탄)가 영향력을 행사하는 존재로 제시된다. (3) 마지막으로 통치 백성은 세상에 속한 모든 자와 빛에 속한 신자로 구분된다. 특별히 신자는 예수를 믿음으로 어둠에서 빛으로 옮겨와 하나님 과 새 언약 관계를 맺고 자녀의 신분을 얻은 자다. 요한서신은 이런 하나님 나라의 제반 요소를 담은 큰 그림으로 구원 과정을 이해하고, 그 안에서 신자와 교회가 처한 문제를 다룬다. 이런 결과를 통해 본 논문은 요한서신이 신약의 어느 책에 못지않게 하나님 나라 제반 요소에 대한 풍부한 표현을 담고 있다고 주장한다.

영어초록

Jesus proclaimed the coming of the kingdom of God as the first declaration of his public ministry. From then on, everything in his ministry and its results were related to the kingdom of God. In essence, the kingdom of God served as the central theme of Jesus’ ministry and teaching, and it subsequently provided the basic framework for the expansion of the gospel and the narratives of the early churches in the books of Acts and the epistles, and for the culmination of history in the book of Revelation. What about the Johannine letters? The problem is that there is no expression of the kingdom of God in these letters. Does this mean that the Johannine letters have nothing to do with the kingdom of God? The purpose of this paper is to analyze the epistles to find out the portrayal of the kingdom of God in these letters. Two approaches are used to accomplish this. First, a rethinking of the concept of the kingdom of God is undertaken, suggesting a perspective that sees it not solely as a reign, but as a realm of governance that includes elements of rulership and ruled people. Second, an exploration of the epistles is undertaken through the lens of the three essential components of the kingdom of God: the ruling realm, rulership, and the ruled. Through meticulous examination of the text, this paper demonstrates that the Johannine epistles effectively present the concept of the kingdom of God. (1) Regarding the ruling realm, the Johannine epistles fundamentally understand the present world as a battlefield where the realms of light and darkness collide. (2) Regarding the ruler, each realm has its initiator and authoritative figure. The ruler of the realm of light is the Triune God, while the ruler of the realm of darkness is Satan, who rebels against God. (3) Finally, the ruled people are divided into all those who belong to the world and the believers who belong to the light. The believers have been moved from darkness to light through faith in Jesus, entering into a new covenant relationship with God and receiving the status of children, but still live in the world. The Johannine epistles provide a comprehensive framework with various aspects of the kingdom of God, illuminating the process of salvation and dealing with the challenges faced by believers and the church. In this regard, this paper argues that the Johannine epistles contain rich expressions of the elements of the kingdom of God, not inferior to any other book in the New Testament.
