초록

In recent years, a variety of products with a universal design have been developed and used. However, there has been little research on universal design in the area of fashion design. Product Performance Program (PPP) developed by Tripod have mainly been used for universal design evaluation over the past years, such elements are not perfectly suit- able for the industry. Accordingly, evaluation elements of universal design suitable for this industry will be refined and the principle of evaluating the fitness on the universal fashion design will be re-established in this study. In this study, five rep- resentative theories on universal design were analyzed. By analyzing the results of earlier studies, three principles of uni- versal fashion design included ‘flexibility’, ‘cognition’ and ‘efficiency’ added up with ‘aesthetics’ and ‘psychology’. Finally, 14 check lists and such five principles were obtained. It should be noted that the tools for evaluating the suitability of universal fashion design developed in this study are meaningful, in that they re-established a new principle of universal design in terms of ever-changing fashion, not in terms of pre-existing clothing. It is meaningful to review the possibility of applying this tool into the suitability of universal fashion design by using 14 specific check lists and weights in each category.
