뉴미디어 시대의 소통과 글쓰기에 대하여 (A Study on Communication and Writing in the New Media Era)

초록

논문은 한국 대학의 교양교육에서 핵심으로 여기는 소통과 글쓰기 교육이 디지털 미디어가 주도하는 현대 사회의 특성을 반영할 필요가 있다는 입장에서 출발한다. 연구목적은 뉴미디어 시대의 소통 방식과 글쓰기 방향에 대해 검토함으로써, 디지털 시대에 적절한 글쓰기 교육의 방향 모색에 이론적 단서를 제공하는 것이다. 이를 위해 미디어 철학자인 빌렘 플루서의 소통과 글쓰기에 대한 사상을 중심으로 고찰하였으며, 비교적 최근의 관련 자료들을 참고하였다. 먼저, 디지털 뉴미디어 사회의 시대적 상황을 진단하기 위해 뉴미디어의 특성에 대해 살펴보았다. 이어서, 뉴미디어 시대의 소통 방식에 대해 담화와 대화를 중심으로 고찰하였다. 마지막으로, 뉴미디어 시대에 대학에서의 글쓰기 교육에서 고려할 사항에 대해 논의하였다. 디지털 미디어는 이전의 소통 매체들을 통합한 방식의 뉴미디어로서, 언제 어디서나 자유롭게 소통할 수 있는 환경을 제공하고 있다. 디지털 시대의 소통 방식은 그물망형 대화를 토대로 원형극장 담론을 지향할 수 있게 된 것이다. 뉴미디어 시대의 글쓰기는 사고 표현의 기능을 강화하고 새로운 수사법을 적용해야 한다. 이러한 점을 감안할 때, 대학의 교양교육에서는 사고력도 신장하고 새로운 수사법을 적용한 글쓰기 교육이 이루어져야 한다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로, 보다 더 구체적이고 실현 가능한 수업 설계를 위한 연구가 이어져야 한다. 그렇게 되면, 뉴미디어 시대를 살아가는 젊은이들이 대학생활뿐만 아니라 실생활에도 유용한 능력을 신장하는 고등교육의 환경을 구축할 수 있고, 이를 통해 민주 시민으로 살아가는 방법을 교육하는 일이 가능할 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the theoretical basis necessary for developing courses of communication and writing appropriate to the New Media era. Thereby the starting point is the position that the higher education institutions should provide the learners with the opportunity to learn and practice communication and writing through the New Media in order to improve digital and media literacy. As a result of the research, the following can be summarized.
Firstly, this study demonstrated the characteristics of the New Media in terms of communication. Modern society offers the condition in which any information or opinion can be sent and received through New Media. Therefore, it is needed to consider this situation in designing the curriculum or course for the education of communication and writing.
Secondly, communication modes are reviewed drawing on Flusser’s terminology of discourse and dialogue. While old Media contributed to one-way communication implemented by discourses, New Media enable people to use the dialogue in which the participants can be interactive. Although the discourse of amphitheater-form structure is relatively democratic, it should be changed in oder to form the field of genuine discours based on the dialogue of net-form structure.
Lastly, writing in the New Media era is discussed in the insight of thinking expression, historical awareness, and digital rhetoric. Even in the digital society, writing is still important to develop the human thinking competence and necessary to improve the historical condition. Furthermore, students should understand and can make use the digital rhetoric because the rhetorical convention could be different from that of the traditional writing convention.
For those reasons, the writing education at the Korean universities should try to reform the content and method for making suitable to the society in which the mutual communication is possible through the New Media. In addition, it is recommended that further studies are conducted to develop writing courses which can be used in the classrooms.
