초록

본 연구는 암호자산 투자자들의 특성과 투자 결정요인을 분석하고, 암호자산 투자로 인한 문제점을 실증조사를 통해서 밝히고 예방책을 모색하는데 함의를 제공할 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 한국금융투자자보호재단의 펀 드투자자조사(2017년) 응답자 중 투자를 목적으로 암호자산을 구매한 경험이 있는 소비자(247명)와 구매한 경험 이 없는 소비자(2,178명) 총 2,425명을 분석하였다. 암호자산 투자자들의 특성과 투자 결정요인을 분석하기 위해 기술통계분석, 교차분석, 일원분산분석과 scheffe test, 이항로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 먼저 암호자산 투자 경험여부에따라‘투자유경험’ 집단과‘투자무경험’ 집단으로구분한후, 투자경험이있는집단은현재보유여부 에 따라 분류하고, 투자 무경험 집단은 암호자산에 대한 지식을 유무에 따라 분류하여 4개 집단 투자자들의 특성 및 투자 결정요인을 파악한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 암호자산 투자여부에 따른 특성 차이를 살펴본 결과, 여성보다는 남성이, 고소득자가 저소득자에 비해 암호 자산에대한투자및내용인지를더잘하고있었으며, 암호자산을투자한경험은연령이적은사람이많은사람 에 비해, 고학력자와 고소득자가 저학력자 및 저소득자에 비해 더 많았다. 특히 부양가족이 없는 미혼 가계의 암호 자산 투자자 비율이 높았고, 암호자산 투자에 관한 내용을 잘 인지하고 있었다. 둘째, 암호자산 투자여부에 따른 금 융이해력 수준 차이를 살펴본 결과, 금융이해력 측정을 위한 12개 모든 문항에서 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나 타났다. 셋째, 암호자산 투자여부에 따른 투자 특성 차이를 살펴본 결과, 위험투자선호성향, 주관적 투자 실력, 자 기과신에서 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 암호자산 투자자는 비투자자에 비해 주관적으로 본인이 투자를 잘 한다고 생각하고 있었으며, 자기과신성향이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 암호자산 투자 여부를 결정하는 요인을 살펴보기 위해 이항 로짓분석을 실시한 결과, 성별이 남성인 경우, 연령이 낮을수록, 금융자산이 적을수록, 주관적 으로 투자실력이 좋다고 생각할수록, 자기과신이 높을수록, 재무설계 경험과 투자자 교육 경험이 있는 경우 암호자 산에 투자할 확률이 높은 것으로 나타났다.
암호자산을 고위험 투자자산으로 간주할 때, 이를 거래하는 투자자를 보호하기 위해서는 시장의 시스템과 규제를 적절히 설정하고 보안을 강화하는 등의 노력이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구 결과가 향후 암호자산을 비롯한 신기술 투자의 피해를 줄이고 금융투자자보호 방안을 수립하는 데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This study analyzed the characteristics and investment determining factors of investors in crypto assets. The study examined the problems involving investment in crypto assets through empirical survey to provide implications for finding preventive policies. For this purpose, a total of 2,425 consumers including 247 consumers who have an experience of purchasing crypto asset as a means of investment and 2,178 consumers without an experience of buying crypto asset were analyzed using the Fund Investor Survey (2017) by the Korea Financial Investment Foundation. The group with an experience of investment was further divided into two groups according to the current possession of crypto assets. The group without an experience of investment was divided into two groups according to the knowledge on crypto assets. The results are summarized below.
First, we examined the characteristics of the respondents according to the investment in crypto assets. Men and high-income earners were more aware of the investment in crypto assets and the relevant contents than women and low-income respondents, respectively. Younger people had more experience of investing in crypto assets than in older age. Also, the respondents with high education and high income had more experience of investing in crypto assets. The proportion of crypto asset investors was particularly high in single household without dependent who showed profound knowledge about the contents of crypto asset investment. Second, we investigated how the level of understanding about finance differs according to the investment in crypto asset. All of the 12 items that measure the level of understanding about finance showed a significant difference. Third, the difference of investment characteristics according to the investment in crypto assets was examined. In the analysis result, a significant difference of the investors’ risk preference, subjective investment skill, and self-confidence level was observed. The crypto asset investors had a belief that they are good at investment and they showed high self-confidence level, compared to other investors. Fourth, binary logit analysis was conducted to find out the factors that determine investment in crypto assets. The analysis result indicated that people are more likely to invest in crypto assets when they are men, young, have small amount of financial assets, subjectively believe that they have good investment skill, have high self-confidence level, and have an experience of financial planning and investor education.
To protect investors who trade crypto asset, efforts should be absolutely made to set proper market system and regulation and to reinforce security. The result of this study is expected to contribute to reduce damage of potential investors in new technology-driven assets, such as crypto asset, and establishing plans to protect financial investors in the future.
