초록

「혈의 누」에서 옥련은 여러 도움을 받는데, 이는 동정이나 직업 등과 같은 문명인의 자질을 환기한다. 따라서 고장팔이 옥련 모친을 구한 일은 근대적 직무에서 비롯된 호텔 보이의 도움과 구분된다. 그것은 기존의 위치를 잃은 대신 새로운 사회적 관계를 맺지 못한 고장팔의 처지를 통해 미조직된 조선의 상태를 암시한다.
따라서 직업이 없는 고장팔은 가족 이산과 더불어 자기의 위치를 잃은 옥련 모친과 동류다. 더 나아가 고장팔의 행동은 그녀를 겁탈하려 함으로써 기존의 신분 질서를 전복하려 한 농군의 행동과 다르지 않다. 그렇다면 옥련 모친이 혼자 지키고 있는 빈 집은 텅 빈 공간이 아니다. 그것은 이전과 이후 사이에 놓인 채 복잡한 역학 관계가 펼쳐지고 있는 사회적, 역사적 장소다. 그 집은 가장이 귀환함으로써 예전 상태로 회복되기보다는 옥련과 구완서가 새로 지을 집에 의해 지양될 것이다.
한편 이 소설의 한 가지 핵심은 외국어 공부와 번역이다. 이를 통해 소설은 여러 외국어와 대립하면서 내적으로 통일된 자국어를 수립하고자 한다. 그것은 신분과 젠더적 분할뿐 아니라 필담으로 잔존하는 중국과의 전근대적 관계를 넘어서려 함을 의미한다. 즉 소설은 음성중심주의적인 근대 민족의 실현을 지향한다.
그런데 중요한 것은 민족의 “고국말소리”가 번역이나 편지 등과 같은 문자와 텍스트를 매개로 발현된다는 점이다. 이때 옥련이 상처를 입고 부모와 헤어지는 것은 현존에 우선할 뿐 아니라 음성 언어에 이미 침투해 있는 에크리튀르의 작용을 은유한다. 또한 차이의 체계로서의 조선어 에크리튀르는 조선 사회를 근대적으로 재조직하게 될 미래의 가능성을 예시하기도 한다.
따라서 소설은 외국어뿐 아니라 조선어 및 조선어의 위치가 학습되도록 하며, 이 언어 학습은 태평양을 넘어 배달되는 편지로써 외국의 딸이 국내의 어머니를 가르치는 일로 완수된다. 규방과 세계를 잇는 이 가정교육을 통해 소설은 언문 에크리튀르가 발하는 민족의 소리와 함께 국가의 현존을 연출하고자 한다.

영어초록

The fact that Okryon is helped by several men and women evokes the qualification and character of civilized people related to sympathy or employment. Therefore, Ko Jangpal’s rescue of Okryon’s mother differs from the help of hotel “boy” originating from his modern job. Instead, it suggests the disorganized situation of Korea through Ko’s condition in which he had lost his previous position without forming new social relationships.
In this sense, Ko without a job belongs to the same class as Okryon’s mother who lost her position by the scattering of her family. Furthermore, Ko’s help is not different from the farmer`s brutal behavior toward her, implying a type of subversion of the pre-modern hierarchy. Thus, the house she keeps over alone is not an empty space but a social and historical site in which a complicated dynamism arises between the past and the future. It would not be recovered with her husband`s return but should be sublated by the new house of Okryon and Ku wanseo.
Meanwhile, the one core of this novel is the study of foreign languages and translation. Through these factors, the novel endeavors to establish the Korean vernacular which is not only confronted with foreign languages but also internally unified as one entity, signifying the overcoming of the partition of status and gender existing in Korean society and the negation of the pre-modern relationship with China. In short, this novel aims to realize a phono-centrical modern nation.
However, the important thing is the fact that “the voice of homeland” is enunciated by the mediation of letters and texts. Another aspect to point out is that the wound and the separation of Okryon are metaphors which narratively visualize the operation of écriture which precedes ‘presence’ and already permeates the oral language. The écriture of Korean language as a system of difference and distinctiveness anticipates the possibility of reorganizing Korean society in the future as well.
Therefore, the characters are studying foreign languages and Korean language simultaneously. This language class is finally accomplished by the lecture of the daughter, who teaches the international position of Korean language to her mother by the letter which arrives at her mother’s place across the Pacific Ocean. Through this home education which links women’s quarters to the world, Tears of Blood tries to produce the presence of Nation with its voice originated from Korean écriture.
