쉴룩어와 스와힐리어의 문법관계 표시전략 유형비교, 자동문과 타동문의 S, A, P 논항을 중심으로 (Typological Comparison of the strategies of marking syntactic function in Shiluk and Swahili)

초록

본 논문에서는 나일사하라어족의 쉴룩어와 나이저콩고어족의 스와힐리어를 비교 연 구함으로써 각 언어의 유형다양성과 특이성을 살펴볼 것이다. 구조와 계통이 전혀 다 른 두 언어를 비교하면 각 언어의 유형적 특이성을 좀 더 객관적으로 파악할 수 있다. 이 두 언어는 지리적으로는 인접해있지만 언어 접촉, 계보 또는 다른 요인들로 인해 형태표시 전략이 다르게 나타난다. 논문에서 쉴룩어의 기본 어순은 SV/OVS이다. 쉴룩 어의 자동문 구조에서 형태표시는 오직 통사표시전략(어순)으로만 나타난다. 쉴룩어의 기본적인 형태표시전략은 의존소 표시전략이다. 능격은 동사 후치된 주어에만 표시되 며 그 외의 다른 구성 요소는 절대격으로 표시된다. 스와힐리어의 기본 어순은 SV/SVO이다. 스와힐리어의 통사적 전략은 타동성의 영 향을 받지 않는다. 또한 모든 핵심 논항은 스와힐리어의 머리(동사)에 표시된다. 주어 표지는 동사 어근에 접두사로서 필수적으로 표시된다. 반면에 목적어 표지는 시제 표 지와 동사어근 사이에 있는 접두사로 선택적으로 표시된다. 쉴룩어는 타동성에 따라 어순과 형태표시전략이 다르게 나타나는 반면에 스와힐리 어의 통사기능 표시전략은 타동성의 영향을 받지 않는다. 또한 쉴룩어의 기본 형태표 시전략은 의존소표시전략(능격)이지만 논항의 인칭과 수에 따라 중심표시전략이 제한 적으로 실현된다. 반면에 스와힐리어는 모든 핵심논항이 중심표시전략인 호응으로 표 시된다.

영어초록

African linguistics has started systematically since the mid-19th century (Kwon 2004: 2). Many scholars have worked on revealing the interrelationships between African language groups. Early researchers carried out vocabulary collection and grammar description of single language based on historical and comparative linguistic methods with the aim of revealing genetic relations. As a result of many preceding studies, comparative studies can be conducted on the basis of research data that had be done. Grammar description of single language is not only important, but also the comparative study make it easier to have an objective perspective of each language’s peculiarity. In this paper, based on specific data from individual languages, I would like to deal with a typological comparative analysis of expressions for syntactic functions, which are reflected in a given construction with morphosyntactic devices. Subjects of case study are the Nilotic languages of the Nilo-Saharan languages and the Bantu languages of the Niger-Congo languages, Shilluk and Kiswahili. The languages of the Nilo-Saharan and Niger-Congo languages are geographically adjacent to the East African region but genetically different(Greenberg 1963). These two languages have different syntactic function marking strategies such as agreement, case system, or word order. Generally speaking, Nilo-Saharan languages are head-final SOV languages with dependent marking strategies such as case, and Niger-Congo languages have many language distributions with a head marking strategy, such as agreement. These two language families have very different morphosyntactic marking strategies due to language contact, genetic difference or other factors. The purpose of the comparative study of two genetically different languages is to discuss typological peculiarity and diversity, as well as understanding of African languages(Kwon 2006). In brief, Shilluk has different word order and morphological marking strategies depending on transitivity. basic word order of Shilluk is SV/OVS. Syntactic functions in Shilluk‟s intransitive structure can be by only syntactic marking strategy. Shilluk's basic morphological strategy is the dependent marking. Ergative is only marked on subject which is preceded by verb and other constituents are presented in unmarked absoultive case. However, in Shilluk, head marking strategy is realized in a limited way, depending on the number and person of the argument. In Swahili, the basic word order is SV/SVO. The syntactic strategy of Swahili is not affected by transitivity. Also, All core arguments are marked at head(verb) in Swahili. Subject marker is obligatory prefix, but object marker is optional infix that is located between tense marker and verb stem.
