초록

본 연구는 중종대와 선조대의 김굉필(金宏弼, 1454~1504)에 대한 공적 평가의 변화를 『경현록』의 편찬 및 개찬과 관련하여 설명하고, 이로써 인물에 관한 특정 사실을 선별하고 배치하는 방식을 통해 16세기의 사대부가 자신의 학문적・정치적 입장에 따라 대상 인물을 형상화하는 방식을 구명한 것이다.
중종대에 조광조(趙光祖, 1482~1519)를 중심으로 정력적으로 추진된 김굉필의 문묘 종사가 실패한 이후 선조 초엽에 이르러 그의 문묘 종사 청원이 다시 거론되었는데, 이때 『실록』에 다시 등장한 김굉필은 이전보다 훨씬 강화된 위상을 갖고 있었다. 이것은 그사이의 시기에 진행된 김굉필에 대한 선양 사업의 결과로서 여기서 특히 김굉필의 행적을 기록한 언행록인 『경현록』의 저술과 개찬이 중요한 역할을 하였다.
이정(李楨, 1512~1571)은 『경현록』을 편찬한 뒤 이황(李滉, 1501~1570)에게 자문을 요청하였는데, 이황은 단순한 교정이 아니라 체제를 전반적으로 손보고 자신의 견해로 수정하여 『경현록』을 새롭게 편찬하였다. 이 개찬 작업의 방점은 김굉필을 가문의 현조(顯祖)보다는 사문(斯文)의 종장(宗匠)으로서 보편적인 권위를 획득할 수 있도록 김굉필의 학문적 성취를 보다 강조하는 것에 있었다. 그리하여 김굉필이 도통에 포섭될 수 있는 근거를 사승 관계가 아닌 개인의 학문적 성취로 가져오고자 하였다.
김굉필에 대한 이황의 평가는 후대에 신뢰할 만한 전거로 인정받아 김굉필이 국가적 유현(儒賢)으로 공인되는 것에 중요한 역할을 하였다. 이로써 김굉필은 이전의 권위 있는 인물과 연결되지 않고서 도학적 성취를 인정받았으며, 국가의 학문 진흥에 핵심적인 역할을 하였다는 점이 폭넓게 수용되었다.

This research undertakes an in-depth exploration into the dynamic evolution of the public perception of Kim Goeng-pil(金宏弼) during the reign of Jungjong(中宗) and Seonjo(宣祖) within the Joseon Dynasty. The central focal point of this inquiry resides in the meticulous examination of the reciprocal relationship between this shifting societal perception and the concurrent compilation and subsequent revision of Kyeonghyeon-Rok(景賢錄). Through a discerning process of curation and arrangement of historical facts germane to the characterization of Kim Goeng-pil, this scholarly endeavor endeavors to illuminate the intricate manner in which 16th century literary elites construed and portrayed this historical figure in alignment with their respective political and scholarly proclivities.
During the reign of Jungjong, Kim Goeng-pil's inclusion within the enshrinement of scholars in Munmyo(文廟) was ardently championed, with Cho Gwang-Jo(趙光祖) serving as the vanguard of this concerted effort. Regrettably, this initial advocacy met with a lack of success. In the nascent stages of the Seonjo era, there emerged a resurgence of interest in Kim Goeng-pil's prospective the enshrinement of scholars in Munmyo. It is noteworthy that during this period, Kim Goeng-pil's reappearance within the annals of the official historical records(實錄) had markedly fortified his societal standing compared to previous periods. This enhancement of Kim Goeng-pil's stature could be attributed to persistent and sustained endeavors over the intervening years aimed at promoting his historical legacy. Crucially, the composition and subsequent revision of Kyeonghyeon-Rok, a record encapsulating Kim Goeng-pil's uttered words and actions, played a seminal and instrumental role in the realization of this transformation.
Following the compilation of Kyeonghyeon-Rok, the esteemed compiler, Lee Jeong(李楨), deemed it necessary to solicit the scholarly guidance of Yi Hwang(李滉). What transpired was not a mere correction of textual inaccuracies; rather, it encompassed an extensive and comprehensive overhaul, encompassing not only rectification of the text but a holistic reorganization of its thematic content, interspersed with the infusion of Yi Hwang's own nuanced perspectives. This undertaking was not without purpose; it was primarily crafted to accentuate Kim Goeng-pil's scholarly accomplishments, positioning him not merely as an honored ancestor within a specific lineage but as a figure of pervasive and universal scholarly authority. This recalibration necessitated a shift in the yardstick by which Kim Goeng-pil's incorporation into the Daotong(道統) was measured, no longer tethered solely to traditional master-disciple affiliations but hinging on the individual's unique scholarly contributions and merit.
Subsequently, Yi Hwang's meticulously assessed evaluation of Kim Goeng-pil's historical stature gained broad acclaim as a robust and dependable scholarly reference, serving as a pivotal cornerstone in the establishment of Kim Goeng-pil's renown as a nationally recognized scholar. This recognition afforded Kim Goeng-pil a distinct acknowledgment of his scholarly contributions and intellectual prowess, emancipated from the shadows of prior authoritative figures. It became manifestly evident that Kim Goeng-pil occupied a central and catalytic role in the advancement of intellectual and scholarly pursuits throughout the nation.
