편년체 자료의 통계 정보 추출과 활용 –『日省錄』·『承政院日記』·『朝鮮王朝實錄』을 중심으로 (Extracting and Utilizing Statistical Information from Chronological Data: Focused on “Ilseongrok”, “Seungjeongwon Ilgi” and “Joseon WangjoSilrok”)

초록

지금까지 인문 관련 검색시스템은 원문 이미지나 원문 텍스트, 해제 정보를 중심으로 서비스를 제공해왔다. 이런 형태의 검색 중심 서비스는 인문 연구에 많은 도움을 주어 인문학의 발전에 이바지한 것도 사실이다. 한편, 『日省錄』, 『承政院日記』, 『朝鮮王朝實錄』은 유네스코 세계기록유산으로 등재된 소중한 편년체 자료로 각각 150년에서 500여 년의 긴 시간에 걸친 기록 문화 유산이다. 정치ㆍ경제ㆍ사회ㆍ문화ㆍ기상 등 다양한 역사적 사실을 상세하게 기록하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 이 기록물에 대한 통계 자료는 발표되지 않아 이를 효과적으로 분석할 방법 연구의 필요성이 있다.
지금까지는 “원문검색 → 특이사항 확인 → (연구자의 고된 노력에 의한) 통계 추출 → 결론”의 형태로 연구가 진행되었다면 “통계 추출 → 특이사항 확인 → 원문검색 → 결론”의 순으로 발상을 전환하면 방대한 기록을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 이를 위해 자료의 양, 데이터의 특성을 먼저 분석해 사용자가 입력한 검색어를 시각적으로 표현할 수 있는 방법을 찾았다. 논문에서는 자료 검색 시스템에서 제공하는 인물ㆍ장소와 같은 태깅된 정보를 이용해 통계를 추출할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 날씨 정보, 검색어의 출현 빈도를 연도별ㆍ월별ㆍ일별로 추출해 구글차트의 꺾은선 그래프로 표현한다. 또, 검색어휘의 생성ㆍ소멸 관계를 시간에 따라 찾을 수 있고, 역사적 사실 검증을 효과적으로 수행할 수 있음을 밝힌다. 또 산재되어 서비스되는 세 기록물에 대한 검색을 통합함으로써 동일 날짜에 대한 원문을 동시에 비교할 수 있는 편리성도 제공한다. 이 연구는 고전번역원의 「한국문집총간」에 수록된 개인 문집으로 확대해 분류별 특성 분석을 위한 사전 연구의 일환으로 충남대학교 한자문화연구소에서 표방하는 통계 중심의 인문 지식 시각화 모델링에 대한 연구 방법의 하나이다. 이는 지금까지 인문 연구자를 위해 제공된 검색 중심 서비스의 문제점을 찾고 인문학 관련 프로그램이 나아갈 방향 제시의 한 예이다.

영어초록

Until now, humanities-related search systems have provided services centered around original images or texts, as well as interpretation information. This type of search-focused service has certainly helped humanities research and contributed to the development of humanities. On the other hand, Ilseongrok(日省錄, the Daily Records of the Royal Secretariat), Seungjeongwon Ilgi(承政院日記, Diaries of the Royal Secretariat) and the Joseon Wangjo Silrok(朝鮮王朝實錄, Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty) are valuable chronological materials that have been listed as UNESCO World Documentary Heritage, each containing historical records of political, economic, social, cultural and meteorological events spanning from 150 to 500 years. Despite these, statistics on these documents have not been published, and there is a need for research to effectively analyze them.
In the past, research have been conducted in the form of “original text search → confirmation of specific facts → (statistics extraction through researchers’ hard work) → conclusion”. However, if the thinking is reversed to “statistics extraction → confirmation of specific facts → original text search → conclusion”, it is believed that vast records can be effectively utilized. To this end, the amount of data and the characteristics of the data were analyzed first to find a way to visually represent the search terms entered by the user. This paper suggests that statistical information can be extracted using tagged information, such as people and places, provided by the data search system, and that weather information and the frequency of search terms can be extracted by year, month, and day, and presented in Google charts’ line graph. It also highlights that the relationship between the generation and disappearance of search terms can be found over time, and that historical facts can be effectively verified. In addition, it provides convenience by integrating searches for the three scattered and serviced records, allowing for a simultaneous comparison of original texts for the same date. This research is one of the methods of studying statistical-centered humanities knowledge visualization modeling, which is advocated by the Chinese Character Culture Institute at Chungnam National University as part of a preliminary study for classifying personal collections included in the “Korean Collection of Books” published by the Korean Classics Translation Institute. This is an example of finding the problems of search-focused services provided to humanities researchers and suggesting a direction for humanities-related software to move forward.
