    초록

The 1920’s to 1930’s were a crucial time when Korean modernchildren’s literature was formed and developed. Introduction to andacceptance of foreign children’s literature was an inevitable step informing Korean children’s literature. If one wishes to understand thedevelopment process of Korean children’s literature, he/she mustthoroughly examine how foreign children’s literature influenced theformation of Korean children’s literature.
In order to study the translation works done on the children’s songsand poems in the 1920’s to 1930’s, I focused on anthologies ofchildren’s songs and poems that were released at the time, such asChosun Collection of Children’s Songs (1924) by Eum Piljin;Collection of Children’s Songs from Around the World (1927) byMoon Byungchan; Collection of International Juvenile Literature(1927) by Ko Janghwan; Lost Daenggi (1933) by Yoon Seokjoong; andMulti-colored Jeogori (1938) by Park Yongcheol. These anthologiescontained vital information on how foreign children’s literatureinfluenced the formation of Korean children’s songs.
Eum Piljin’s anthology, which was compiled in the initial stages of the creative nursery rhyme movement, shows a great affinity andinterest towards Korean traditional songs. Foreign children’s songs inthe collection were only included so that they could be compared to theKorean traditional songs. Anthologies by Moon Byungchan and KoJanghwan, the two leading writers of the early children’s literaturemovement, imply their social statuses at the time. It is known that theauthors compiled these anthologies with the intention to strengthen theliterary knowledge as well as national pride of the youth that has losttheir country due to colonization. On the other hand, Yoon Seokjoong’stranslations that were published in the early 1930s sought to bringabout change in the creative literature movement and Park Yongcheol’santhology was made in order to educate the general youth on literature, and these works inspired and set examples for future poets.
