한국 중소기업의 국제화 연구동향 분석: 1993년부터 2013년까지 KCI 등재지에 게재된 논문들을 중심으로 (Analysis of Research Streams on Korean SMEs’ Internationalization: Based on the Review of KCI Listed Journals from 1993 to 2013)

초록

The current study presents an extensive review of 20 years of research on small-and-medium sized enterprises’ (SMEs) internationalization in order to provide directions for the future study from the macro point of view. For this purpose, the authors collected a total of 178 articles through the key words search relevant to SMEs’ internationalization. The results of content analysis show that the majority of the studies, i.e., 151 articles are quantitative, 24 studies are qualitative, and the rest are the mix of qualitative and quantitative studies. Regarding target industries, the majority of the studies are skewed toward the manufacturing sector and high-technology industry, which indicates the lack of industry-specific research. This study further identified 5 research streams. First, 22 articles deal with export supporting policy, more specifically, including improvement plan on export supporting system, awareness of export supporting system, and use of the system. Second, 16 articles are about drivers of internationalization such as entrepreneur factors, company factors, and environmental factors. Third, 17 articles are classified as process of internationalization including stages, modes, timing, scale, and scope of internationalization. Fourth, 92 articles examine factors influencing performance on internationalization. Finally, 31 articles are categorized as miscellaneous topics.
