초록

본고는 6･25전쟁과 서울을 핵심어로 하여 1950년대 대중가요의 모습을 살펴 본 것이다. 1950년대에 나온 서울 노래들은 노랫말에 따라 크게 긍정의 노래와 부정의 노래로 나눌 수 있다. 1950년에 발발한 6･25전쟁과 휴전, 그리고 전후 복구로 이어지는 일련의 사건들은 우리의 일상을 송두리째 바꾸어 놓았다. 가족은 해체되었고 많은 사람들이 고향과 터전을 잃고 떠돌아야 했다.
특히 전쟁 시기에는 ‘부산’이 피란 수도가 되면서 대중가요에도 부산을 위시한 피란지의 공간이 종종 등장했다. 그러므로 1950년대의 서울 노래는 1950년대를 기준으로 그 이전 시기와 이후의 시기를 아울러서 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 전쟁 이전에 이미 전쟁에의 우려가 있었고, 휴전 이후에는 전쟁의 여파가 1960년대 이후로도 계속되었기 때문이다.
이러한 사정이 있어서 본고는 전쟁이라는 ‘사건’보다 서울이라는 ‘공간’에 더 주목해서 그 양상을 살펴보았다. 특히 본고에서는 이제까지 잘 알려지지 않았던 1950년대 후반에 나온 세 권의 대중가요 노래책을 주 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 노래책을 전수 조사하여 서울과 관련된 노래들을 모두 모았다.
이를 다시 긍정의 노래와 부정의 노래로 나눈 뒤, 그 각각의 모습이 어떻게 나타나는지 살펴보았다. 1950년대에 나온 서울 노래 중 긍정적인 내용을 담고 있는 노래들은 크게 ‘재건과 희망’의 서울과 ‘사랑과 청춘’의 서울을 그린 노래로 나뉘었다. 전쟁 이후 재건과 희망이 넘치는 서울 모습을 그린 노래들은 주로 외래어를 사용한다는 특징을 드러냈다. 그리고 음악적으로는 미디엄 템포의 팝 계열의 음악이 많았다.
다음으로 부정적인 내용을 담고 있는 서울 노래는 크게 ‘비정과 매정’의 서울 노래와 ‘이별과 슬픔’의 서울 노래로 나눌 수 있다. 이러한 노래들은 전쟁 이후, 일자리를 찾아 지방에서 서울로 올라온 사람들의 상처와 아픔을 담아냈다. 또한 전쟁 이후, 명동이 문화와 낭만의 도시로 부상하면서 1950년대 노래에 명동이 자주 등장한 것을 확인하였다. 노래에서 명동은 사랑의 기쁨과 이별의 슬픔이 공존하는 공간으로 그려졌다.
본고는 1950년대에 나온 구체적인 작품을 들어 서울 노래의 양상을 살펴봤다. 하지만 1950년대 노래의 정보가 다른 시대의 노래에 비하여 상대적으로 정확하지 않고, 수적으로 많은 작품을 대상으로 한 것이 아닌지라 여러 한계를 지니는 것도 사실이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 인상적인 특징은 포착할 수 있었다. 이에 앞으로 자료의 보완과 보강이 요구된다.

영어초록

This paper examines the appearance of popular songs in the 1950s, with the Korean War and Seoul as the key words. Seoul songs released in the 1950s can be divided into positive and negative songs depending on the lyrics. A series of events that led to the Korean War, the armistice, and postwar reconstruction that broke out in 1950 completely changed our daily lives. The family was disbanded and many people lost their hometowns and homes and had to wander.
In particular, during the war period, "Busan" became the capital of the country, and popular songs often featured spaces of refuge, including Busan. Therefore, Seoul songs of the 1950s need to look at the previous and subsequent periods together. There were already concerns about war before the war, and after the armistice, the aftermath of the war continued until the 1960s.
For this reason, this paper focused more on the "space" of Seoul than the "event" of war and looked at the relevant aspects. In particular, three popular song books released in the late 1950s, which were not well known until now, were the main subjects of the analysis. It is a collection of songs related to Seoul by researching all the song books.
After dividing it into positive and negative songs, we looked at how each of them appeared. Among the songs in Seoul released in the 1950s, positive content was largely divided into 'Seoul of Reconstruction and Hope' and 'Seoul of Love and Youth'. These songs, which depicted reconstruction and hope-filled Seoul after the war, were characterized by the use of foreign words. And musically, there were many pop songs of medium tempo.
Next, the Seoul songs, which contain negative contents, can be largely divided into the Seoul song of "Unkindness and Relentlessness " and the Seoul song of "Parting and Sadness." These songs capture the scars and pain of people who came to Seoul from the provinces in search of work after the war. It was also confirmed that Myeong-dong appeared frequently in songs from the 1950s as ‘Myeong-dong’ emerged as a city of culture and romance after the war. In the song, Myeong-dong was depicted as a space where the joy of love and the sorrow of parting coexisted.
This paper looked at the aspects of Seoul songs by listening to specific works from the 1950s. However, it is also true that the information of songs of the 1950s is relatively inaccurate compared to songs of other times, and that they are not aimed at numerous works. Nevertheless, impressive features could be captured. Thus, supplementation and reinforcement of data are required in the future.
