『고려사』 예지 가례의 구성과 서술방식 (Composition and description method of Yeji(禮志) Garye( 嘉禮) in the Koryŏsa(高麗史))

초록

『고려사』 가례는 국왕 관련 의식 20항목, 태자 관련 의식 6항목, 관료 관련 의식 20항목, 신분변화 의식 7항목(1항목은 태자 관련 항목과 중복), 연등회 및 팔관회를 포함한 기타 의례 3항목, 총 55항목으로 구성되었다. 연등회와 팔관회에는 일반민과 외국인도 참여하였다는 점에서, 고려왕조의 예제에 많은 영향을 주었던 『대당개원례』 보다 『고려사』 가례가 국왕을 포함한 모든 사람들이 참여하고 시행하는 의례라는 가례의 성격을 잘 반영하였다.
유형별 구성 양상을 보면, 『고려사』 가례는 첫째, 왕비 책봉을 제외하고는 국왕의 배우자로서 왕후의 위치와 역할을 보여주는 의례가 매우 소략하였다. 둘째, 관료 관련 의식이 많고, 관청별, 지방행정구역별, 관직별로 다양하고 세세하게 의례를 규정하였다. 셋째, 태후 책봉, 왕비 책봉 등 특정 신분을 공인하는 책봉례가 가례조의 서두를 차지할 정도로, 왕실에 대한 책봉 의식을 강조하였다. 넷째, 왕실 중에서 국왕 다음으로 태자와 관련된 의식이 많고, 태자가 행례자와 수례자로 지정된 의례 외에도 태자가 여러 의례에 참석하고 참석자를 대표해서 의식을 수행하도록 규정하는 등 태자의 위치와 역할을 강조하였다.
『고려사』 가례는 志로 편찬되었기 때문에, 의례집과 달리 서술 방식에 몇 가지 특징이 있었다. 첫째, 의종대를 서술의 기준 시점으로 하면서도 시간적 추이에 따라 변화된 예제를 기술하였다. 둘째, 행사의 내용이 달라도 의식의 격, 의례 참석자, 의식 절차가 같으면 한 항목으로 설정하여 의례를 기술하였다. 세째, 무편년 기사로 작성된 의례들은 의식 절차에 따라 의례 전 과정이 기술되었고, 편년 기사로 작성된 의례들은 새로 제정된 의례거나 기존 의례를 보안하거나 특정 절차만이 서술되었다. 넷째, 의식 절차에 따라 표제어를 설정하여 서술된 의례도 있지만, 표제어 없이 의식 전 과정이 서술된 의례도 있었다. 다섯째, 같은 절차를 설명하더라도 의례에 따라 그 내용이 상이한 경우가 있었다.

영어초록

This paper examines the composition, the organization pattern by type, and the description method of Yeji Garye in the Koryŏsa, which well reflects the royal rites during the Goryeo Dynasty.
The Garyes(royal rites) in the Koryŏsa consist of 55 items in total: 20 rituals related to the king, 6 related to the crown prince, 20 related to the bureaucracy, 7 related to status change (Item 1 is duplicated with the one related to the crown prince), and 3 other rituals including Yeondeunghoe(八關會) and Palgwanhoe(燃燈會). In that the ordinary people and foreigners also participated in the Yeondeunghoe and Palgwanhoe, the Garyes in the Koryŏsa were the public rites in which all people including the king participated rather than the Daedang Gaywonrye(大唐開元禮) The Garyes in the Koryŏsa had following characteristics in the composition. First, the rituals related to queen’s position and role as king’s spouse except for the selection of queen were fairly modest. Second, there were a lot of rites related to bureaucracy, which were diverse and defined in detail for each government office, regional administrative district, and position. Third, the ceremonies for selection of royal family were so emphasized that the ceremonies for selection of queen dowager or queen used to come first at Garye program. Fourth, among the royal rites, the ceremonies related to the crown prince were the second most after the king. In addition to the rituals where the crown prince was designated as a performer or a forformee, the prince participated in various rites and officiated the ceremonies on behalf of the attendees. Thus, his position was emphasized.
Since the Garye of the Koryŏsa was compiled as a Ji(志), it has, unlike other ritual books, several characteristics in the method of description. First, while using the reign of King Uijong as the reference point of description, it contains some rituals that changed over time. Second, even if the contents of the event were different, the rituals with the same ritual type, participants, and procedure were described at a same item. Third, for the rituals written non-chronologically, all the rite procedures were described in accordance with the ritual standards; meanwhile, for the rituals written chronologically, only the newly introduced or complemented procedures were described in there. Fourth, Some rituals were described with the separate headwords according to the ritual procedure, but others were described without any headwords for the entire procedure of the ceremony. Fifth, even when the same procedure was explained, the contents were different depending on the ritual.
