초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국현대시에 나타난 폭력의 양상을 탐구하면서 폭력의 원인과 의미를 찾는데 있다. 한국 현대 모더니즘의 대표적 시인이라고 할 수 있는, 박남철 시의 시대적이고, 역사적 사건을 중심으로 한 폭력적 세계관을 분석하였다. 연구방법으로 슬라보예 지젝의 ‘언어적 폭력’ ‘구조적 폭력’ ‘물리적 폭력’ 등 세 가지 논의를 중심으로 폭력성, 반폭력성, 비폭력성의 양상을 살펴보았다. 첫째 ‘폭력성과 구조적 폭력’에서는 국가가 자행한 폭력적 사태인 1980년 5․18 광주 민주화 사건 운동에 대하여 3S라고 지칭할 수 있는 sport, screen, sex를 통해 억제하거나 제압하기 위해 ‘국가의 문화적 폭력’에 대한 폭력을 드러낸다. 이러한 폭력은 시스템적으로 국민들에게 자행하는 힘과 권력에 의한 이데올로기적이고, 공시적인 국가적 폭력이라는 점에서 ‘구조적 폭력’이라고 할 수 있다.
둘째 ‘반폭력성과 물리적 폭력’에서는 폭력에 대항하기 위해 정치적인 형식을 파괴하고 장르를 해체하는 반미학의 원리로, 폭력적 현실을 부정하며 군사독재로 받은 폭력의 반향으로써 반폭력을 행사한다. 이것은 폭력에 저항하기 위한 폭력으로 나타나며, 국가로 대변되는 권력에 대한 힘을 무화시키기 위해 ‘반폭력성의 법칙’이 작용한다. 박남철은 정권의 무력적 훈육 방식을 도입하여 무지하고, 무력한 국민(독자)들을 반어적으로 일깨우고, 국민들을 대신하여 지배계층에 반폭력을 가한다는 측면에서 아방가르드적으로 문학과 정치, 문학과 문화의 경계를 물리적이고 가시적인 폭력으로 해체하며 지배계층에 저항하는 ‘언어적 혁신’을 시도한다. 박남철의 반폭력성은 폭력에 대한 저항으로서 국가가 행한 폭력적인 억압을 ‘물리적이고 가시적인 폭력’으로 행사하고 있다.
셋째 ‘비폭력성과 상징적 폭력’에서는 시대적 폭력을 증오하고 그것을 극복하기 위해 상징화된 언어로서 대체하면서 ‘비폭력적인 무저항’과 ‘비폭력적인 저항’을 드러낸다. 이것은 국가의 폭력적인 사태를 비폭력적으로 바라보지만 대신에 독자들로 하여금 국가와 국민 사이의 시대 상황을 긴밀하게 유추하게 한다. 그의 비폭력성은 ‘무저항적’인 ‘상징화 된 언어적 폭력’을 보여준다. 또한 ‘기표 해체 화법’을 통해 세계에 가해지는 폭력을 암묵적으로 웅시하고 있다는 관점에서 세계 안에 벌어지는 폭력적 사태에 대해 ‘비폭력적 저항’을 보이기도 한다. 그의 시에서 ‘비폭력적인 무저항’과 ‘비폭력적인 저항’이 보여주는 공통점은 ‘언어적― ‘상징적 폭력’으로 나타난다.
