초록

이 글은 김규동과 김경린의 후기 시세계를 비교 검토한다. ‘후반기’ 동인의 중심인물이었던 김경린과 김규동은 1960년대에서 1970년대 중반에 이르는 공백기 이후 전기의 시적경향에서 변화한 양상을 보인다. 전후 한국 문단에서 시 「나비와 광장」으로 잘 알려진 모더니스트였던 김규동은 공백기 이후 리얼리즘적 문제의식을 지닌 시인으로 크게 변모한다. 김규동은 후기의 시 작품들에서 망향의 슬픔과 통일된 조국에 대한 기대를 읊는다.
이는 당대의 현실을 분단의 시대로 파악하고, 이를 극복할 때에 완성된 ‘하나의 세계’가 도래하리라는 현실 인식에 기반 한다. 이러한 창작 경향의 변화는 분절된 세계에서 시인의 역할이란 무엇인가에 대한 고뇌의 결과이자 그에게 시인의 윤리란 무엇이었는가를드러낸다.
김규동의 후기 시가 리얼리즘적 면모를 드러내는 데에 반하여, 공백기 이후의 김경린은 포스트모더니즘적 경향의 시를 창작한다. 김경린은 선명한 이미지와 내부의 스토리가하나로 합쳐지며 시의 의미를 전달하는 매크로(macro) 방식의 시 창작법과 투사시, 대화시, 구체시, 시소설 등의 형식적인 실험을 계속한다. 이러한 김경린의 창작 경향은 사회를포스트모던의 시대로 인식한 데에서 기인한다. 그에 따르면 현대는 다원화 되고 문명이발달함으로써 인간 소외가 이루어지는 사회이다. 그러므로 현대의 문제를 포스트모더니즘의 형식을 통하여 현대의 독자에게 더욱 쉽게 전달하고자 하는 것이 그의 의도였다. 그러나 이는 세계 문학 내에서 한국 문학의 위상을 높이고자 하는 세계적 동시성에 대한욕망을 포함한 것이기도 하다.
‘후반기’의 중심인물이었던 두 시인의 시가 공백 이후 서로 다른 변모의 양상을 나타내는 것은 당대의 현실을 서로 다르게 인식했기 때문이었으나, 이들에게는 공통적으로 국가와 민족에 대한 의식이 깊게 자리하고 있었다. 그러나 이들 후기 시의 변모는 주변부국가에서 소외된 언어로 글을 쓰는 시인이 마주하게 되는 필연적인 문제지점이다. 동시에 시인이 겪어야만 했던 오랜 침묵의 의미를 대변하는 것이기도 하다.

영어초록

This study compares and reviews the world of later poems composed byKim Gyu-dong and Kim Kyung-lin. As central figures of the ‘Huban-gi (TheLatter Half)’ Coterie, Kim Kyung-lin and Kim Gyu-dong show changes intheir poetic tendencies after a break from the 1960s to the mid-1970s.
Especially, in the postwar Korean literary circle, Kim Gyu-dong, who is awell-known modernist with the poem, “Butterfly and Square,” drasticallytransforms himself into a poet who has a critical mind of realism after thebreak. Kim Gyu-dong sings sorrow of homesickness and a hope for a unifiednation to come someday in his later poems. This is based on his perceptionof a reality in which ‘one world’ that is truly completed will come, when heunderstands the contemporary reality as an era of division and contentionand overcomes that. Such a change in his trend of writing is a result of hisfierce concern about what the role of a poet is and reveals what the poet’sethics is in the segmented world.
While Kim Gyu-Dong’s later poems reveal realistic aspects, Kim Kyung-lincomposes post-modernist poems after the break. Kim Kyung-lin keepstesting the poetic theory with a macro method of delivering the meaningsof poems while vivid images and inside stories are united and the forms ofpoetry such as projective verse, conversation poem, concrete poem and versenovel. Kim Kyung-lin’s tendency of writing is based on his recognition ofpost-modern society, according to which, modern times are a society wherethere is human alienation with the diversification and the development ofcivilization. Therefore, his intention was to deliver problems of modern timesto readers of the modern times more easily through the form of post-modernism. However, this also includes his desire for global simultaneity to increase the status of Korean literature in world literature.
Poems of the two poets, central figures of ‘Huban-gi’ show different aspectsof transformation after the break because each perceived the reality of thetimes differently, and yet, national and ethnic perceptions were situated deepin them. In other words, for them, ‘writing poetry’ was to complete the nationor to enhance the national prestige. However, the transformation of their laterpoems is the inevitable problem site the poet who writes poetry in an alienatedlanguage in a peripheral country encounters and at the same time, the momentwhen the ‘poems’ tell people the meaning of the long silence the poet hadto suffer.
