초록

『행복의 동산』이나 『집게네 네 형제』에 수록된 일련의 작품들은 시정 세태와 삶의 진정성에 대한 날카로운 풍자를 동반한다. 이러한 풍자는 우언적 표현에서 비롯된다. 우언적 표현은 동ㆍ식물과 어류 등 생명체의 특성과 유래담을 재해석하여 창조적으로 재구성함으로써 가능하다. 이렇게 재해석ㆍ재구성된 형식을 통하여 드러나는 우언적 표현의 실상은 정체성을 중시하는 수분사상, 현실인식과 소통을 통해 공존?조화의 정신을 고취시키는 협동사상, 그리고 상생의 사상을 내포하고 있다.
북한 아동문학작품은 우언적 표현에 의해 생명력과 다의성을 획득함으로써, 사상적으로 경직화ㆍ획일화되어가는 북한에서 한잠 자라나는 어린이들에게 교양과 훈계와 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함을 교육하는 ‘소리 없는 힘’으로 존재하며, 문학의 가치를 옹호하고 높은 문학정신을 체현했다는 데 그 의의를 지니고 있다. 이러한 우언적 표현은 현재 창작되고 있는 북한 아동문학작품에도 예전과 같이 수용되어 전과 동일한 ‘힘’으로 그 기능을 수행해야 한다. 뿐만 아니라 앞으로도 우언적 표현은 이 ‘힘의 작용’으로 독자와 작가 그리고 여러 장르에 걸친 다양한 문학작품에 영향력을 행사해야 하리라 사료된다.

영어초록

The origin of the fable in North Korean literature lies in the oral literature, which has been handed down for generations and also laid the foundation for the Korean literature. The purpose of this study is to seek the meaning and role of fables in North Korean literature, especially in its children's literature of「Garden of Happiness」(1960) and「Four Crayfish Brothers」(1957), which have their origin in the oral tradition. The series of literary works compiled in these North Korea's children's books accompany harsh satires on the current state and people's life in the contemporary world. These satires originated fables which frequently have animals, plants as their central characters, and they are often given personified characteristics, such as the ability to speak and to reason. Such creative rearrangements employing satire enable fable to attach great importance to the "identity," giving rise to various ideas such as coexistence, harmony, cooperation, and mutual benefit.
North Korea's children's literature is worthwhile in that by obtaining vitality and diverse meanings through fabled expressions it played the key role in helping the children in the North who are growing up rigid and uniformed environment in ideology learn moral concept or idea illustrated by simple anecdotal stories. In addition, it also safeguards the value of literature and embodies the lofty literary spirit. These fabled expressions and ideas should be included in North Korea's children's literature and continue to provide keen insight into the social and cultural function of fables. Last but not least, they should fulfill their cultural, social and historic roles, as they keep influencing readers, writers as well as various literary works.
