유아를 위한 지속가능발전교육(ESD) 기반 갯벌 체험학습 프로그램 개발 (The Development of a Tidal Flat Experiential Learning Program Based on Education for Sustainable Development for Young Children)

초록

본 연구는 유아를 위한 지속가능발전교육 기반 갯벌 체험학습 프로그램을 개발하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 다음과 같다. 본 연구는 관련 문헌 및 2019 개정 누리과정 분석, 프로그램 시안 선정, 프로그램 평가 및 최종 프로그램 선정 순으로 진행하였다. 유아기 지속가능발전교육 관련 필요성은 유아 발달, 유아 교육에서 지속가능발전교육 관련 이슈, 교육적 요구 등을 분석하고, 관련 문헌 분석 및 2019개정 누리과정 분석을 통해 이론적 기반을 정리하였다. 이를 토대로 프로그램을 개발하고 관련 전문가와의 논의를 통해 타당도를 검증하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 최종 프로그램을 개발하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 프로그램은 환경, 경제, 사회의 지속 가능한 발전에 필요한 지식과 기술을 제공해야 한다는 시대적 요구와 지속가능발전교육의 시작은 영유아기가 효과적이라는 발달적 적절성 측면에서 프로그램 개발의 필요성을 제시하였다. 그리고 유아기에 시작하는 지속가능발전교육은 어린이들의 자연스러운 호기심과 학습에 대한 열정을 활용하여 지속가능성의 기본 개념을 통합적으로 가르치는 방향으로 진행되어야 함을 제시하였다. 또한 협력과 사회적 상호작용을 중요시하며, 환경, 사회, 경제의 균형 잡힌 이해를 통해 유아가 복합적인 지속가능성 문제에 대한 적절한 행동을 취할 수 있도록 지도하는 것이 필요함을 시사했다. 둘째, 본 프로그램을 구성하기 위해 지속가능발전교육목표와 관련된 2019개정 누리과정 내용을 분석하였다. 2019개정 누리과정에 나타난 지속가능발전교육목표를 분석한 결과 건강과 웰빙, 양질의 교육, 성 평등, 좋은 일자리와 경제성장, 지속가능한 도시와 공동체, 책임 있는 소비와 생산, 기후행동, 해양 생태계 보호, 평화롭고 포용적인 사회 등의 목표가 연계될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 본 연구에서는 지속가능발전교육 목표와 연계되는 누리과정 내용을 갯벌체험교육 측면에서 분석함으로써 프로그램이 지속가능발전교육 목표라는 명료한 토대 위에서 구성되었음을 밝혔다. 셋째, 본 프로그램의 목적과 목표는 지속가능발전교육의 필요성과 누리과정의 분석을 통해 나타난 결과에 기초하여 수립하였다. 이를 실현하기 위한 학습 모형은 발견하기(Discovering), 함께 배우기(Learning Together), 나누고 표현하기(Sharing and Expressing) 등 3단계로 구성하여 제시하였다. 마지막으로, 유아를 위한 지속가능발전교육 기반 체험학습 프로그램 개발의 필요성 및 2019개정 누리과정 내용 분석을 기초로 개발된 본 프로그램은 총 12가지의 활동으로 구성하였다. 이와 같은 결과를 정리해 보면 첫째, 지속가능발전교육 기반 갯벌 체험학습 프로그램은 시대적 요구를 반영하였다는 측면에서 의미가 있다. 둘째, 유아기 지속가능발전교육의 중요성을 강조하고, 실제 교육 프로그램 개발을 통해 이론과 실천이 어떻게 연계될 수 있는지를 보여주는 중요한 사례가 된다. 셋째, 유아교육에서 지속가능성 개념을 통합적으로 가르치는 방향을 제시하고, 실질적인 환경 교육의 모델을 제공했다는데 의미가 있다.

영어초록

This study aimed to develop a tidal flat experiential learning program based on sustainable development education for young children. The research methodology was as follows: The study began with an analysis of the necessity for sustainable development education in early childhood, including a review of relevant literature and the 2019 Revised Nuri Curriculum, followed by the selection of program drafts, evaluation of their validity, and final program selection. The necessity for sustainable development education in early childhood was analyzed by examining child development, sustainable development issues in early childhood education, and educational needs, along with a review of the literature and an analysis of the 2019 Revised Nuri Curriculum to establish a theoretical basis. Based on this, the program was developed and its validity was verified through discussions with related experts. Through this process, the final program was developed.
The results of this study are as follows: First, the necessity of the program development was highlighted by the need to provide knowledge and skills for sustainable development in the environment, economy, and society. It suggested that initiating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in early childhood is effective from a developmental appropriateness perspective. In early childhood, ESD should leverage children's natural curiosity and passion for learning, teaching the fundamental concepts of sustainability in an integrated manner. It also implied the importance of fostering cooperation and social interaction, guiding children to take appropriate actions on complex sustainability issues through a balanced understanding of the environment, society, and economy. Second, for program’s construction, the content of the 2019 Revised Nuri Curriculum related to sustainable development goals was analyzed. This analysis revealed that it could be linked to objectives like health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, protection of marine ecosystems, and fostering peaceful and inclusive societies. The study clarified that the program is based on a clear foundation of sustainable development goals by analyzing the Nuri curriculum contents in relation to tidal flat experiential education. Third, the objectives and goals of the program were established based on the necessity of ESD and the analysis of the Nuri curriculum. The learning model to realize these objectives was presented in three stages: Discovering, Learning Together, and Sharing and Expressing. Finally, the necessity of developing this experiential learning program based on sustainable development for young children and the analysis of the 2019 Revised Nuri Curriculum led to the creation of the program, which consists of 12 activities.
In summary, the study highlights the significance of developing a tidal flat experiential learning program based on sustainable development, reflecting contemporary societal needs, particularly in environmental awareness and sustainability. It emphasizes the importance of initiating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from early childhood, serving as a pivotal example of integrating theory and practice in educational settings. This approach demonstrates the practical application of ESD principles in early education, potentially impacting children's long-term understanding and attitudes towards sustainability. Additionally, the study provides a model for integrative sustainability education in early childhood, extending beyond theoretical concepts to offer a practical framework for environmental education, which can shape children's comprehensive understanding and positive attitudes and behaviors towards the environment and society from a young age.
