초록

이 글은 東江 申翊全(선조 38, 1605~현종 1, 1660)에 관한 첫 번째 연구로 그의 문집인 『東江遺集』에 대한 解題를 이어 작성된 것이다. 동강 신익전은 象村 申欽의 아들이자 樂全堂 申翊聖의 동생으로 조선 중기 최고 명문가의 하나인 平山申氏 家系의 일원이었지만 아직까지 학계에서 거의 언급되지 않은 인물이다. 지금까지 동강 신익전에 대한 연구가 이루어지지 않은 이유에 대해 단언하기는 어렵지만, 그가 상촌 신흠의 아들이었음에도 불구하고 남겨진 작품이나 자료가 완전하지 않고 남겨진 작품으로 볼 때도 당대 문단의 선두에 서 있었다고 보기 쉽지 않을 뿐만 아니라 정치적으로도 당대 정계의 중심에서 정계를 이끌었던 인물이라고 보기 어렵기 때문이 아닐까 생각된다.
이 글은 병자호란의 경험이 그의 시문학 세계에 어떻게 작용하였는지, 또 그 경험에 따른 의식의 변화는 그의 시세계에 어떻게 적용되어 왔는지 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 신익전의 문집을 살펴보면 병자호란의 경험과그 경험에서 파생된 기억은 그의 일생을 貫流하는 것이었음을 알 수 있다. 특히 신익전의 일생과 문집을 통해확인할 수 있는 모습은 그가 느끼고 있었던 丙子胡亂의 충격과 淸나라에 대한 적개심, 또 이를 바탕으로 한강개와 울분이 어느 정도였던 것인지를 충분히 유추하게 해 준다.
신익전의 시세계는 병자호란과 밀접하게 얽혀 있다. 병자호란의 경험과 기억을 시 속에 직접적으로 대입한시들이 대부분 “諦念과 悲歎”이라는 정서와 “悲憤慷慨”라는 두 가지 정서를 기본으로 하고 있다는 점에서, 신익전에게 병자호란의 기억은 그의 시 세계 어디에도 옮겨갈 수 있는 시세계의 기본 정서로 작용했다고도 할수 있다. 이 중 悲憤慷慨를 중심으로 하는 시는 다시 敗戰과 亡國의 恨을 바탕으로 하는 悲憤慷慨와 淸나라에대한 적개심과 明나라에 대한 尊慕意識으로 구분하여 볼 수 있다.
이 글은 신익전에 대한 본격적인 연구의 시작에 해당한다. 따라서 치밀한 분석과 논리적 해명보다 신익전의시문학에 대한 설명을 중심으로 한다. 이 글을 시작으로 앞으로 동강 신익전에 대한 연구가 보다 활성화되기를 바란다.

영어초록

This paper is one of the first studies regarding Donggang Shin Yikjeon, following theannotation for his anthology Donggangyujip(『東江遺集』). Although Donggang Shin Yikjeon was amember of Shin family of Pyeongshan, which was one of the elite families in the mid-Joseonperiod, as a son of Sangchon Shin Heum and a younger brother of Nakjeondang Shin Yikseong,he has been little mentioned in academic arena so far. Even though it is hard to affirmed whyDonggang Shin Yikjeon has not been researched much, the reason can be thought to be that hewas not a literary leader based on his remaining literary pieces, which are not even intact, andwas not a political leader leading the political arena of the time though he was a son ofSangchon Shin Heum.
This paper is to examine how his experiences of Byeongjahoran(Sino-Korean war in the yearof Byeongja) affected his poetry world and how the changes of his consciousness derived fromthe experiences were applied to his poetry world. As Shin Yikjeon’s anthology is studied, it canbe revealed that his experiences of Byeongjahoran and his memories derived from them flowedthroughout his life. Especially, the aspects which can be affirmed from Shin Yikjeon’s life andanthology allow to analogize how strong the shock he took from Byeongjahoran was, how bigthe hostility he felt against Qing dynasty was, and how much the indignation and the anger basedon the shock and the hostility was.
Shin Yikjeon’s poetry world is closely related to Byeongjahoran. Within the point that hispoems which his experiences and memories of Byeongjahoran were directly applied to werestanding on two feelings, that are the feeling of frustration and anguish and the feeling ofindignation, it can be said that for Shin Yikjeon the memories of Byeongjahoran functioned as thefundamental feeling of his poetry world that can be located anywhere in his poetry world. Hispoems with the feeling of indignation can be sorted into those of the indignation based on the resentment of the defeat and of the ruination of his nation, into those of the hostility against Qing dynasty, and into those of the veneration for Ming dynasty.
This paper is relevant to the beginning of the full-scale research on Shin Yikjeon. Indeed, this paper focuses on explanations about Shin Yikjeon’s poetic literatures instead of elaborate analyses and logical elucidations. It is wished that further researches on Donggang Shin Yikjeon can be vitalized from this paper afterward.
