예비유아교사의 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감 분석 (A Study on Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers' Social Distance from People with Disabilities)

초록

본 연구는 예비유아교사의 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감의 정도를 알아보고, 이를 배경변인에 따라 분석하며, 장애유형에 따라 비교하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 B시 소재 대학의 유아교육과에 재학 중인 예비유아교사 294명에게‘국가․제도’,‘일반․생활’,‘학교․동료’,‘친구’,‘가족’차원으로 구성된 사회적 거리감 척도에 응답하도록 하였다.
연구결과 사회적 차원에 따라서는‘일반․생활’,‘국가․제도’,‘학교․동료’,‘친구’,‘가족’순으로 사회적 거리감이 가까웠고, 이 중‘일반․생활’,‘국가․제도’,‘학교․동료’차원은‘보통’보다 가까운 사회적 거리감을 나타낸 반면 나머지 두 차원에서는‘보통’보다 먼 사회적 거리감이 표출되었다. 이를 배경변인별로 분석하였더니 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 예비유아교사, 특수교육관련 교과 수강경험이 없는 예비유아교사, 장애인과의 직접경험이 있는 예비유아교사가 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감을 유의미하게 적게 나타내는 것으로 분석되었다. 한편 장애유형에 따른 분석에서는 시각장애, 지체장애, 청각장애, 지적장애, 정신장애 순으로 사회적 거리감이 가까운 것으로 나타나 예비유아교사들의 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감이 장애유형에 따라 다름을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 미래의 유아교육현장에서 장애유아 통합교육을 수행하게 될 유아교사 양성교육과정에 활용될 수 있는 기초자료가 되며, 사회적 거리감을 감소시킬 체계적이고 다각적인 방안이 모색되어야 함을 시사한다.

영어초록

This study is intended to investigate the pre-service early childhood teachers' social distance from people with disabilities, to analyze it depending on their background variables, and to compare among the types of disability.
Two hundred ninety four pre-service early childhood teachers majoring in early childhood education in universities located in B cities replied on 5 dimensional questionnaires ('nation․system', 'the public․ordinary life', 'school․co-worker', 'friend', 'family') about social distance from people with disabilities.
The research findings are as follows : First, the order of the pre-service early childhood teachers' social distance is 'the public․ordinary life', 'nation․system', 'school․co-worker', 'friend', and 'family'. The first three dimensions('the public․ordinary life', 'nation․system', 'school․co-worker')were closer than 'normal' social distance and 'friend' and 'family' dimensions showed longer distance than 'normal' levels.
Second, there were signigicant differences between college pre-service teachers and 4 year university pre-service teachers, between pre-service teachers who take special education classes and who take no special education classes, and between pre-service teachers who have direct relationships with people with disabilities and who have no relationships.
Third, there were visual disabilities, physical disabilities, hearing disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and mental disorder in social distance order, and there were significant differences between categories of people with disabilities in the total score and in each dimension. In conclusion, through the results of this study, we could find that the pre-service early childhood teachers had some social distance from the people with disabilities, and there were diverse social distances depending on the categories of people with disabilities.
This results in grounded data to help make the curriculum of integrate education for pre-service early childhood teachers, and shows that there is a need for a multifaceted plan to reduce their social distance.
