시청각장애인의 의사소통을 위한 점어 및 점어기에 관한 기초 연구 (A Study on the Language and Prototype Device for the Communication of People with Deaf-blindness)

초록

시청각장애인은 시각과 청각의 복합적인 장애로 인하여 의사소통의 사각지대 속에 갇혀있다. 시청각장애인은 생각의 표출과 대화를 통한 타인과의 교감이 장애라는 장벽에 막히어 인간으로서 정체성조차 위협받는다. 이에 본 연구를 통해 시청각장애인의 언어로서 점어(點語)의 필요성과 기초 원리를 확립하여 시청각장애인의 의사소통에 기여하고자 한다. 점어는 국립국어원의 한국어 어휘 연구 자료를 바탕으로 시청각장애인의 삶에 꼭 필요한 언어들을 의미군(意味群)으로 범주화한 후 약속된 코드체계로 정의된다. 점어를 국어로 번역하여 스마트폰으로 전송하고, 국어를 점어로 번역하여 촉감각으로 인지할 수 있도록 해주는 점어기를 통해 시청각장애인은 별도의 통역 없이 세상과 직접 소통할 수 있다. 시청각장애인의 언어로서 점어와 점어기에 관한 실험적 연구는 12명의 시청각장애 당사자들로부터 받은 평가를 바탕으로 향후 더 구체화되고 실용화될 계획이다.

영어초록

People with deaf-blindness are unfortunately locked in a deaf and blind spot of communication in our society. Their identity as a human being is even unstable because the barrier of disabilities blocks the expression of thoughts and communication with others.
This study introduces the framework and the principle of the Braille Language – the language based on the braille which could be a basic means of communication for people with deaf-blindness. Braille Language is a kind of extension of the existing braille for people with visual impairments. The most important expressions for the deaf and blind to live and communicate should be categorized according to ⌜The Development of Korean language education content (4th step), National Korean Language Institute (Han Song-Hwa, 2015)⌟ and ⌜A Study on the Selection of Basic Theme Vocabulary for Korean Elementary Learners (Kim Young-Seon, 2005)⌟. They are defined as a promised code system called “Braille Language System” after categorizing the languages necessary for the life of people with deaf-blindness into semantic group. The people with deaf-blindness can communicate directly with the world through “the Braille Language System”, which translates the Braille Languages into Korean and transmits them to the smart phone of the opposite, and translates Korean words into the Braille Languages and allows people with deaf-blindness to perceive them with tactile sense.
In future research, the Braille Language System should be made in a form of more practical and functional and even attractive design not glove form so that it will be more popular for people with deaf-blindness. If Braille Language System can be upgrade to control smart phone owned by a deaf and blind person including input and output, then it will lead that person not only to communication but also to the access to the useful information through the various functions of the smart phone.
