Corporate Overview
The Kroger Co. is one of the largest grocery retail food companies in the United States with annual sales of more than $50 billion. Kroger operates in 32 states under two dozen names, including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Food 4 Less, Dillon, Smith’s, City Market, QFC and Fry’s. At the end of 2001 Kroger operated 2,160 supermarkets; 147 multi-department stores, 111 price-impact warehouse stores; 789 convenience stores; and 427 fine jewelry stores. The company was founded in 1883 by Barney Kroger and incorporated in 1902. The company is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company is primarily a grocery retailer, but they also manufacture and process food for sale by its supermarkets. The company employs about 288,000 full and parttime associates.

Kroger’s Mission
The company’s mission is to be a leader in the distribution and merchandizing of food, health, personal care, and related consumable products and services.
