초록

본 연구의 목적은 그림책을 활용한 ‘보살핌’ 교육 프로그램의 적용 과정에서 나타나는 만
4세 유아의 쓰기 작품에서 표출된 ‘보살핌’의 의미를 살펴보는 것이다. 본 연구의 참여자는
서울특별시에 위치한 대학 부속 어린이집 만4세반 유아 31명(남아 13명, 여아 18명)과 담
임교사 2명, 그리고 연구자이다. 본 연구에서는 그림책을 활용한 ‘보살핌’ 교육 프로그램을
개발한 후 총 16주(2007년 8월～2007년 12월)에 걸쳐 실시하면서 그 과정에서 수집한 유
아의 쓰기 작품을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 본 연구에 참여한 만4세 유아들은 쓰기 작품에서 가족과 함께함 자체에 대한 기쁨
과 감사함, 그리고 보살핌에 대한 기대를 통하여 ‘보살핌’의 의미를 구성하고 있었다. 이들
은 가족과 함께하는 일상적인 경험 자체에 대하여 기쁨과 감사함, 그리고 사랑의 정서를
표현함으로써 배려적사고의 감상적이고 공감적인 특성을 표출하고 있었으며, 가족, 주로 부
모들이 자신이 지니는 두려움이나 어려움, 그리고 갈등 상황에서 보살핌을 제공해줄 것이
라고 기대하고 있었다.
둘째, 본 연구에 참여한 만4세 유아들은 그림책의 등장인물인 이웃과 친구를 통하여 ‘보
살핌’의 의미를 경험하고, 이를 실제 자신들이 생활하고 있는 상황에 적용하면서 ‘보살핌’의
의미를 구체화시키고 있었다. 이들은 그림책의 등장인물, 이웃 및 친구, 그리고 교사 등이
처한 어려운 상황에 대하여 깊이 있는 이해를 하고 이에 대한 ‘보살핌’의 마음을 표현하고
있었으며, 이웃과 또래, 그림책의 등장인물들과 상호작용하면서 그들의 ‘보살핌’의 모습을
배우고, 이를 실제 상황에 적용시켜 실천하고자 하는 행위를 통하여 ‘보살핌’의 의미를 터
득하고 있었다.
셋째, 본 연구에 참여한 만4세 유아들의 쓰기 작품을 분석한 결과 유아들의 자연과 환경
에 대한 관심이 증가하고, 유아들이 자연과 환경에 대하여 염려하는 마음을 가지게 되었으
며, 자연과 환경에 대한 배려와 돌봄을 실천에 옮기고자 노력하게 되었다. 유아들은 보살핌
의 대상을 가족이나 이웃, 또래 등 사람들에게만 국한시키지 않고 자연과 환경에까지 확장
시키게 되었고, 자연과 환경을 보살피기 위한 구체적인 방안을 제시함으로써 보살핌의 의
미를 강한 실천적 의지로 표출하고 있었다.

영어초록

The objective of this study is to examine the meaning of 'Care' from four year old
children's writings from the 'Care' education program using picture books. The
participants of this study were 31 4-year-old children(13 boys, 18 girls) enrolled in
child care center in Seoul, two teachers, and a researcher. The 'care' program were
developed and implemented for about 16 weeks(2007.08～2008.12). The result of the
study is as followed.
First, the four year old participants of this study described the meaning of 'care'
through the happiness, thankfulness, and the expectation of care from being with the
family. They showed the appreciative and sympathetic thought through their expressing
happiness, thankfulness, and love from the everyday experience with the family. They
formed the meaning of 'care' through the experience that allowed the children to think
again about the happiness and thankfulness regarding the experience of 'care' from
parents and families. Also, the children expected the families, mostly the parents, to
care for them in situations of fears, hardships, and conflicts, and looked for mental
stability from it.
Second, the participants of this study experienced the meaning of 'care' through
picture books' characters such as neighbors and friends, and applied the meaning to
their real life situations, thus specifying the meaning of 'care.' They deeply understood
the difficult situations the characters, friends or neighbors, and teachers were in, and
showed the heart of 'care' for them. They learned the characteristics of 'care' through
interacting with the neighbors or friends, and the characters of the picture books, and
applied the 'care' to real life situations, trying to apply the act of 'care', thus learning
the meaning of 'care.'
Third, after analyzing the writings of the four year old participants of this study,
[we] found out that the children's interest in nature and environment has increased,
the children became to worry about the nature and environment, the children put the
care of the nature and environment into actions, thus forming the meaning of 'care' for
the nature and environment themselves. The children did not limit their care to
families and friends, but expanded it to the nature and environment, and suggested
specific plans for nourishing the nature and environment, expressing the meaning of
'care' strongly through actions.
