초록

최근 우리 미술교육의 최대의 화두는 시각문화 미술교육1)이라고 해도 과언을 아닐
것이다. 이러한 미술교육 사조가 유행하는 것은 현재 우리사회의 문화적 특징인 포스
트모더니즘과 비판주의와 밀접한 연관이 있을 것이다. 포스트모더니즘은 다양한 주장
과 주의가 있을 것이다. 그러나 포스트모더니즘은 일반적으로 다양성과 소담론, 반권
위 등을 특징이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 비판주의는 비판적 사고를 중심 주제로 다루고
있다. 현재 우리나라에서 이루어지는 교육이나 미술교육에서는 포스트모더니즘과 비
판주의가 많은 영향을 미치고 있고, 특히 ‘시각문화 미술교육’이 많은 영향을 받았다.
그래서 ‘시각문화 미술교육’이 현재 우리 교육에서 화두로 대두된 것이다. 하지만 현
재 우리나라에서 이루어지는 ‘시각문화 미술교육’은 비판주의보다는 포스트모더니즘에
더 많은 영향을 받아 문화의 다양성에 초점을 두고 있다는 인상이 있고, 비판주의 영
향을 받았지만 잘못된 비판주의 교육을 실천하고 있는 듯하다. 본 연구자는 이와 같
이 포스트모더니즘 시각이 반영된 ‘시각문화 미술교육’과 잘못된 비판주의 시각이 반
영된 ‘비판적 시각문화 교육’에서 벗어나 본래의 비판주의 시각으로 접근하고자 한다.

영어초록

The study intends to develop critical pedagogy by applying the objectives of
the pedagogy, “the growth of critical thinking and autonomous thinking skills” to
the visual arts. To that end, the study delved into the concept, development
process and education for criticism in a theoretical term to better understand the
literacy education for critical perspectives. It also suggested the directions of the
literacy education for critical perspectives after analysis and interpretation of
critical literacy and media educations which are relevant to the literacy education
for critical perspectives. The proposed directions of the literacy education for
critical perspectives are largely divided into three: i) the characteristics and
objectives of the literacy education for critical perspectives; ii) the curriculum of
the literary education for critical perspectives; and iii) teaching and learning, and
evaluating the literary education for critical perspectives. The study suggested
taking advantage of the visual arts to develop skills for critical thinking for the
characteristics of the education, and to cultivate critical and autonomous thinking
through the literacy education for the objectives. The curriculum needs to be
composed of critical humanities. The study also proposed to proceed with classes
through communications and praxis to construct knowledge of children in teaching
and learning.
As we are living in an age of so-called visual culture, the literacy education
for perspectives is a pressing and important issue. If the visual culture is
considered to be a medium to express politics, society, culture and personal
desires of modern people, then the literary education for perspectives find, analyze
and interpret the ideology from the visual culture. The ability to express such
ideology is essential to the people in this age. This is also regarded as an ability
to critically communicate with individuals and the society. In addition, the
capability of critical literary will help us grow as an individual keeping our
essence without being buried by the groups. Of course, it is true that the
suggested directions of the literary education for critical perspectives tend to be
somewhat vague and declaratory. However, in this age, it is necessary to have
multiple discussions over the literary education for critical perspectives, which will
make contributions to development of the visual culture in the future.
