초록

칸트의 종교철학은 무엇보다 지식과 믿음이 갈등하는 계몽주의 시대에 지식과 믿음의 경계 설정을 통해 양자의 공존과 조화를 추구한다. 이런 맥락에서 칸트의 종교철학은 참된 계몽주의, 즉 경건주의와 계몽주의의 결합을 지향한다. 존재와 선, 자연과 자유, 감성계와 예지계를 엄격하게 구분하는 칸트의 철학은 유명론적 전통 위에 변형된 플라톤주의의 면모를 지니고 있으며, 새로운 관점으로 도덕의 형이상학을 정립하고자 한다.
칸트는 ‘이성의 한계 안에서’ 자신의 종교철학을 전개한다. 신의 현존과 영혼 불멸의 문제는 경험적 방법으로는 증명할 수 없으며, 최고선의 논의에서 덕과 행복이 연결되어야 한다는 실천 이성의 요청으로 해명될 수 있다. 신의 현존과 영혼 불멸은 주관적이지만 도덕적 필연성을 확보하기 위한 이성의 산물이다. ‘이성의 한계 안에서’ 논의되는 칸트의 종교철학은 도덕적 이성 신앙을 지향한다. 칸트는 도덕성의 렌즈로 성경을 해석하고, 역사적이고 우연적인 신앙이 충족시켜야 할 보편적인 신앙의 척도를 제시한다.
칸트의 종교철학은 ‘이성의 한계 안에서’ 정초되기 때문에 한계점과 함께 장점을 갖는다. 도덕의 논의를 완성하기 위해 요청되는 신에 대한 이해가 기능적이라는 점, 외경과 신비 혹은 신과의 인격적 만남 등 다양한 종교적 체험을 간과한다는 한계점을 지니고 있다. 그러나 도덕적 이성신앙을 지향하는 칸트의 종교철학은 지식과 신앙, 과학과 종교 간 경계설정을 통해 상호공존할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하고, 종교윤리와 세속윤리의 연결점으로 기능하며, ‘내가 신을 믿는다’는 것의 실천적 함의를 해명한다. 더 나아가 다양한 신앙의 건전성을 평가하기 위한 도덕적 이성신앙의 형식을 제시한다는 점에서 도덕과 교육에 시사하는 바가 크다.

영어초록

Kant’s philosophy of religion, first of all, pursues the coexistence and harmony between knowledge and faith through setting of a boundary to the field of experience in the Age of Enlightenment. In this context, Kant intends to realize real Enlightenment, that is, the combination of Pietism & Enlightenment. Although Kant’s philosophy has the characteristics of Platonism in terms of the strict separation between being and goodness, nature and freedom, sensible world and intelligible world, Kant has developed his Platonistic philosophy on the basis of nominalistic tradition and established new metaphysics of morals.
Kant handless his philosophy of religion ‘within the boundaries of mere reason.’
The problems of the existence of God and the immortality of soul cannot be demonstrated by method of empirical science. But those can be understood as the postulates of practical reason which demands the necessary connection between virtue and happiness in order to actualize the highest good. The Ideals such as the existece of God and the immorality of soul are subjective, but they are the products of pure reason with a view to ensuring moral necessity. Kant’s philosophy of religion ‘within the boundaries of mere reason’ has the character of moral & rational faith. Kant reads the Bible with the lens of morality and presents the universal canon of faith which particular historical faith should observe.
Kant’s philosophy of religion ‘within the boundaries of mere reason’ has not only limitations but also advantages. For example, the understanding of God as a postulate to fulfill moral laws is functional, and there is no room to deal with various religious experiences such as reverence and mysticism, personal contact of God etc. But Kant’s philosophy of religion which aims moral & rational faith has some merits in ethics education. It presents the possibility of symbiosis between knowledge and faith, science and religion through setting of a boundary to separate two fields. The authenticity of faith ‘I believe in God’ cannot be demonstrated by the method of science in the sensible world, but it can be shown among moral practices. Kant’s philosophy of religion produces the form of moral & rational faith which can estimate the soundness and healthiness of various faiths.
