초록

학습의 3요소는 학습내용, 강사, 학습자이다. 구성주의가 대두됨으로 인해 이 3요소간의 상호작용은 강사위주의 일방적 형식이 아닌 학습내용-학습자, 강사-학습자, 학습자-학습자간의 의사소통이 다변화됨과 동시에 상호작용 빈도도 더욱 원활히 이루어지고 있다. 나아가 컴퓨터 네트워크와 구성주의 교육철학의 만남은 시간과 지역에 구애되지 않는 다양한 인간교류를 가능하게 함으로써 의사소통의 폭을 넓히고 또한 학습 능력간의 격차 및 정보의 독점을 해소시켜 주는 등 의사소통의 질적 향상에도 기여할 수 있는 잠재력을 가진다. 웹 기반 교육은 전통적 수업과 비교하여 학습환경 및 학습 프로세스가 크게 변화됨으로 인해 강사로 하여금 새로운 역할 및 필요능력을 요구하고 있다. 이에 따른 역할 정립 및 훈련이 필요하다. 이 연구는 현재 가상 캠퍼스에서 온라인 학습 촉진자의 역할을 담당하고 있는 전문가 12명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과 한국의 온라인 촉진자들은 교사적, 관리적, 그리고 기술적 역할은 적절히 수행하고 있지만 사회적 역할 즉, 참여자들간의 공식적 또는 비공식적 상호작용에 대한 인식 및 수행도가 저조하다는 결론이 도출되었다.

영어초록

Learning involves interactions among three factors; content, instructor and the learner. As the constructivism was introduced and applied to education, interactions among these three factors have become more active and multidirectional such as content-learner, instructor-learner, and learner-learner. In addition, the union of computer network with the constructivism makes it possible to increase the opportunity to contact anyone at any place at anytime and to improve the quality of communication by filling the gap between those who have more information and the have-not's as well. Comparing with the traditional classroom, the learning environment and the learning process of web-based instruction has been remarkably changed. Instructors should be equipped with new roles and competencies so they can effectively cope with the new learning situation. The questionnaire survey was conducted to 12 Korean on-line facilitator who are currently facilitating web-based courses on a virtual campus. The result is that Korean online facilitators are well performing the pedagogical, managerial and technical roles and have the appropriate competencies. But they do not still perceive nor fully perform the online social roles. This research provides five suggestions to enhance online social roles ; First, instructional frames should be designed to activate interactions among participants. Learners should get the concept that online social activities are not options but learning activities. Second, in the beginning of a course, providing a sort of online events for formal or informal social interactions may be helpful. This makes participants easily get accustomed to the online social communication. Third, orientation for new facilitators is essential. Letting them perceive their new roles is important. Forth, the number of learners per online class should be limited so that one facilitator can manage the interactions among the whole participants. Fifth, individual characteristics and personality is the key to the selection of online facilitator. One who really enjoys helping others will be the best facilitator.
